Is it feasible to do hotshot with a box truck or flat bed? I'm thinking Freightliner M2 series trucks. Or are there enough small runs that I could just do it in a Sprinter van? The trucks sound like a great idea for cost because it's only one unit your buying as opposed to a truck and trailer. They also have much heavier duty engines and transmissions than the Big 3 trucks.

    What do you guys think?

I know a couple of people that use sprinter vans or Honda or Chrysler minivans for expedited cargo

small enough that they are exempt from all the DOT regulations .

no CDL no ELD no weigh stations etc .

    All over

it’s small quantities of cargo that need to get somewhere in a hurry and can’t be air freighted for one reason or another .
If it’s less than 1000 miles it’s often faster to drive it than to fly it anyway . Especially when you have no hours or service restrictions

One guy I know got paid to take a shoebox sized cargo 3000 miles . Evidently it couldn’t be fed Ex’d or air freighted

One thing to know, there is an abundance of vans already on the road now. Probably more than needed. I've heard of guys sitting 2-3 days waiting for a load.
It probably could have been, but one thing to keep in mind, with expedite the shipper is paying for exclusive use of truck, meaning there will be no other loads to be delivered along the way.
