To me, it is really more about control under the auspices of safety.
What astounds me the most is that you know none of the people that make up this BS would ever (knowingly) allow that kind of control over themselves.Coffey, Blue jeans, Bret1984 and 7 others Thank this. -
I am surprised no one mentioned California already has a 55mph speed limit.
In the 1970's we had a 55 mph speed limit because of the oil crisis.
All decisions the administration makes are because of "climate change ".
Nanny trucks with speed cameras, lane departure, blind spot warnings, collision avoidance. ETC are already here and the technology will only get worse before the human is replaced by a robot.Coffey, Blue jeans, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this. -

truckers, as I’ve learned will never unite together to get what they deserve or want. But if we wanted to we could force Congress to pass a law prohibiting the implementation of self driving trucks for at least the next 20 years. Or threaten to sit home. It blows my mind how much power truckers have over the well-being of this entire country and yet we use none of it to ever get our way. About anything. It’s really sad actually.Blue jeans, Bret1984, onetime42 and 3 others Thank this. -
Just throwing it out there, it couldn't hurt, but maybe contact your states criminal, umm I meant Congress rep. Let them know the implications of such a rule, and that you won't stand for it.

This is what I wrote, feel free to copy and paste:
Dear Senator ____, as an independent owner operator having been in the trucking industry for 30 years now, and completely accident free during all these years, it pains me to see that the FMCSA has once again brought up the topic of speed limiters for commercial motor vehicles. I'll admit that there are some very bad drivers out there, both behind the wheel of CMV's and the general motoring public, but to limit the speed on a CMV is just asking for trouble and putting the safety of not only the professional driver in danger, but those around him as well. Road rage being the biggest factor, if you have a group of trucks all running the same speed and one gets out to try and pass another, that is going to set off the general public in a way that has never been seen before. There has to be some other way to handle this. Perhaps larger fines for speeding CMV's, more points on a license, or if you are convicted of speeding in a CMV then at that point you are required to put a speed limiter on your truck for a certain amount of time as part of the punishment. To punish us all just because of the ones that are causing the problem is just childish. I'm an adult, and a professional. I take my driving very seriously, it is my livelihood. Please help in getting the FMCSA to consider other options. Thank you for your time.Blue jeans, Trucker61016, Lennythedriver and 1 other person Thank this. -
