I didn’t mean to leave it with a harsh tone I definitely don’t feel that way about it. I wanted to quit and did get a divorce because of it, threw me into depression and psychosis and wanted to commit subside for years. Yet I still say let people make their choices, why? Because if it is the best choice that the person is capable of doing then no matter what it looks like it’ll all work out and their life will be better off for it, every time always no matter who it is. I guarantee it.

I agree people should choose for themselves. Was just trying to warn of what could happen. As it seems it also happened to you. No hard feelings

If I was warned I still would have done it. I hated being away from my family I cried like a baby. No one could have told me to run away from being a man and fulfilling my duties as a husband and father. That being said I have convinced people to make different decisions over what they thought they should do like starting their own MC instead of going company driver first for their estimate was about a year or more.

I just wanted to point out that:

Practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes perfect.

One thing that helped me was writing a shorthand version of the instruction sheet that they handed out. For example, I cut out all the description of what is to be said about a given part, and created just a line item list of the parts to check. With that condensed list, it became earlier to remember all the things to check during the walk around. The list was divided into sections of the truck.

I had a mechanical background, so I knew instinctively what to say I was looking for on a given part. Even if you don’t, a shortened list will win half the battle for you. If you point out all the part that need to be checked, and say something generic like; checking for cracks or leakage, etc., you’ll be good.

The important thing to nail very precisely is the air brake check. Remember that one line by line.

1st, unless I missed it, where does it say "2 kids and a pregnant wife"? 2nd, and not chewing this person out, but,,,0 experience and 0 knowledge, is this really the best job for this person? I mean, I'm always amazed, someone has to actually LEARN how to drive a truck. There's 2 things wrong with that right off the bat. THEN,,,to be "stressed out", and they haven't even turned a wheel yet,,,boy howdy, perhaps it's a "last gig in town" thing, but really, is this who we want driving our nations trucks? And then all up in arms when they crash into stopped traffic or take your hood off. Quite frankly, this person has no business in a truck, and I'd never hire them, regardless if they passed the stupid class. probably too late for this person, but anyone else in this situation, or even contemplating this, please reconsider. So many jobs, do something you know something about.

I think your fears are of the instructor or that “authority figure” more than knowing what you need to do
Whoever gives the test is there to observe. Just do your thing and you’ll be fine

Fears of the unknown do more damage than anything else.
Sorta like the fear of prison being worse than prison itself

nredforr88 advice is what I did , write it down , and then go out and do a inspection , over and over and over till it's there.
It will work , try not to stress it to much. ( when I did it , I wrote it ,and then every nite go inspect with both written one and a inspection sheet , for about two hrs and worked like a charm)

Trying to study for school, manage a family, a pregnant wife and 2 kids. Is it normal to feel extra stressed, overwhelmed, and not be able to jam all these facts in your head and feel frustrated and hopeless? Will this improve? It was removed later

I'm not sure, I never really did a job that I felt stressed at. I usually knew what I was doing, or didn't venture into other fields. Now, there was a bit of stress starting a new trucking job, and the fine points that were usually different, but I was lucky to have great bosses, that let me ride along( and take notes) for 2 weeks and get paid, before going on my own. I'll tell you this, I tried to do it all, father, husband, homeowner, truck owner, and failed miserably on all, except the father part, but I tried to do too much, and perhaps, in your situation, learning an entirely new trade, might not be a good idea. Remember, you can be a little stressed, but you have a family, and they come 1st.
