Most studies show that fuel economy increases from zero to about 55-58mph or so, and then starts to decrease as speed increases. Flat ground is where the biggest savings are if you slow down your cruising speed. Rolling terrain of course benefits from higher speed on the down slope. I can’t recall who did the study but there was one back in 2011 or 2012 where they did hundreds of trips over the same route and have it broken down by terrain type, varying vehicle speeds, and payload weight. Basically what they found out was a decrease in economy with increasing vehicle speeds on flat ground (pushing a brick through the wind) but an increase in economy with increased vehicle speeds on the rolling terrain.

I don't disagree at all. My point was just to say that there is far more to it than just speed.

I understand totally. I am OK with chilling in the granny lane. It ain't that important for to be able to pass truckers. I don't run past 600 miles daily unless it's necessary so that may impact how I view things. I see so many people bunching up in the hammer lane so I'll just chill in the granny lane and watch the road rage from afar lol

I'll probably be burned at the stake for this, but don't take it too serious. It's mostly satire...

I've had it both ways. Drove a 65 mph truck for two years, a wide open truck for 10 years, and a 75 mph truck the last 8 years or so.

Here in central PA, it really don't matter much. With all the warehouses being built, and the natural growth in the area, compounded by the antiquated roads, you really can't let a truck roll anymore. Ever drive across I-78? Good luck getting much over the speed limit with the traffic and construction. Sure, there's a few spots to let it roll, but most times you have a slow truck camped in the left lane anyway. So you're stuck there.

I-81 from Maryland to I-78? Ha! Same as 78. Places to let it roll, but too many slow truck camped in the left lane. And too much traffic merging on to bother getting in the right lane.

I say we all just go along with whatever BS they wanna throw out there, give them what they want. They'll soon see the repercussions and be forced to admit defeat.

I want 60 mph, and all trucks restricted to the right lane only! Think of it, all those four wheelers trying to merge into an endless line of trucks running nose to tail at 60 mph in the right lane. Won't take long until Karen calls her local congressman and raises cane.

But there's gotta be give and take on both sides to do this. So I'll agree to go along with 60 mph in the right lane only, but they need to allow me to smoke marijuana on my time off.

It's a win win for everyone!

Problem is when Karen calls she's going to demand you be limited to 50 now instead of 60.

Well you certainly aren’t here to discuss or debate the merits and inferiorities of speed governed trucks and ungoverned trucks if that is the only response my prior post can elicit from you.
