Truck driver demographic is slowly aging out of the population. Not enough people taking their spot.

For what it’s worth. A SAIA driver in Indy said you are not allowed to use a phone even with a headset, snack, drink, use the cb, or anything while driving. Camera cops will be along shortly if you do.

Swift had driver facing cameras for about a year, maybe less. They did not police it like that however.
And they didn't last that long.
They lost too many drivers over the issue, and I think it wasn't as advantageous to them in other areas as they thought it would be.

I might have quit at the time, if they started policing it that hard.
They didn't, and I never had any violations because of the camera, so I rode it out until they stopped using it.

I think Swift used it mainly in reviewing past video because of an incident/accident, and didn't use it actively to watch every minute.
And that is a big thing where driver facing cameras are in use.

Then either their terminal manager is not following company policy or that particular driver is lying or misinformed, Saia approved use of a cell phone with a Bluetooth a year ago, the eating, snacking or drinking while driving has long been BS, I was told the day I was interviewed that we could do that as long as we are responsible about it and that was almost 4 years ago, the only thing accurate is the CB use, you can have a CB in the truck, but you are not allowed to use it because they are not hands free, defeats the purpose I know, but that is their policy.

It probably was a little over a year ago so that explains the phone thing. The rest I guess he was layin the BS

I understand, yeah that no eating or drinking in the truck thing has gone around for awhile lol, but we are allowed to do that , the ones that will really get you in trouble are smoking or vaping in the truck or caught texting while driving by the camera, those will definitely get you a write up and possible firing on the second offense.
