Fifth wheel position

With the tag down I run pretty much centered over the front driver. I don't have a heavy steer axle. With 80 psi on the tag it will be close to 11k and the steer 12k. I don't have air ride driver suspension. My tag spacing is 5' ahead of front driver.

 

Might want to start with a truck long enough to put a lift axle on. I don’t know about your regs there, but a lift on that truck here would be useless. Too short inside to get any weight on the lift. You should check your regs for minimum internal bridge before you make any moves.

 

There’s a company in Quebec that moves a lot of concrete beams and things. Windmill stuff now too. They had trouble spec’ing lift axle tractors around all the different jurisdictions they operate in. They went to modifying the tail of the frames on the trucks and using pin on axles like a double-drop or lowbed. They have a lot better luck for permits and weight with those. Might be worth looking into reg wise for where you are. That takes the internal bridge measurement right out of the picture and doesn’t add much wb.

 

I have tan them centered over the drive. If your trailer has adjustable pitch you can change the pitch of your trailer casting more weight forward.
