I’ve always preferred verbs. That’s where the action is.

    Depends upon the facility.

Imagine this: Minimum standard rate for performance is 6 moves per hour. Maximum safe operational speed is 12 moves per hour. Plant is running extra shifts to pre-deliver orders for the coming holiday season. You come in for your 8-hour shift and find that the previous driver was swamped and left you with 38 back-logged moves and the radio chattering because of how far behind the moves are.

You have to be able to block out everything, turn the qualcomm volume off, turn the radio up on your favorite station, and get a groove going at an 12-move per hour rate. During your first three hours, you'll get another 18 moves on the QC, leaving you 20 behind.. During the fourth hour, you get another 6, leaving you 14 behind. During the fifth you get 6 more, leaving you 8 behind. during the sixth hour, you get 6 more, so now you only have 2 moves to catch up, and finally catch up in the seventh hour, exhausted, waiting for your replacement to come. He arrives happy to see everything is running smoothly, and keeps up the pace. Suddenly first shift happens, slamming the yard guy underwater again. You come in for your shift to find the same situation. Wash, rinse, repeat for about 6 weeks.

That's the reality of being a yard jockey.

Dont know what your sleep schedule is like. I do local tank work. Far less stressful at night once all the idiots head home and you mostly have the streets to yourself. I dont have much patience anymore myself for traffic and probably have the worst luck of anyone on Earth when it comes to redlights. Maybe find a dedicated linehaul job at night.
