Hello, I can't find a specific post on my situation.
I received a DOT recordable for rear-ending someone who slammed on their brakes in front of me because they saw a pedestrian on the side of the road coming up a hill. The intersection was a blind one and very controversial in that town. The pedestrian did not active the crosswalk warning lights.
My employer reviewed the drive cam and told me there was nothing I could have done to avoid this... I did not lose my job and maintained my "trainer" status with the company. Their lawyer is defending me in the lawsuit, and a judge gave me supervision as this is the only accident I have ever had in 40 years of driving and 3 years of Class B driving. My MVR is squeaky clean otherwise.
I would like to hire on specifically at Millis Transfer's CDL training program because their company seems to check off the most boxes for me as a long-term career. Their main website seems to indicate that they would take me as a student, but they have another website that states no major accidents or moving violations on current license in the last 5 years.
If anyone is familiar with Millis or any other major carrier that will hire me on despite this, I would love to hear from you. Additionally, any advice on getting into the industry is much appreciated as well.

i think that as long as you have a lawyer defending you in this case and your employer's remarks on record, you should be able to obtain what you want.
of course, no matter what, they will tell you to stay farther back to avoid this again.
the worse any employer can say is.......NO
but you gotta just get up and try.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Apply at Millis anyway. You won't know until you apply. Don't call first; submit the application first.

Where is your location? Maybe some other companies to consider.

I'm from Tennessee originally. Which town are you moving to?

Since Millis is your first choice, apply as soon as you have your Tennessee drivers license and CLP.Last edited: May 15, 2022

First of all please drop that Recordable prefix this just means the carrier has to record the accident in their accident register, for these purposes it means nothing. It seems to me that you have already answered your own question. I would HIGHLY advise staying with your current carrier until that 5-year thing has elapsed. ANYTIME you have something like this to happen TIME is the best cure. I might also add that there is a chance this company might hire you though. I would contact someone there.

Every safety department you apply to will see this, and if all they see is excuses they will likely pass on you. Own up to your mistake, learn from it and move on.Another Canadian driver and RutMat Thank this. -
Generally speaking, it is somewhat difficult to manage space properly when in traffic. I am positive I am not the only person ever to operate a CMV that has been frustrated in traffic.Another Canadian driver and RutMat Thank this. -
