They are working on a new battery type in Scotland for grid storage........ For areas that can not do water generation. like the deserts, prairies, and tundra.

For the TLDR crowd: They are cranking a weight up a series of cables and using the down force to run generators. Like an old clock that you have to pull the weights up every once in a while.

They are planning to put the big weights down old coal mine shafts in the future.......
