Yea there's a few on here that seem to think if you run alittle harder .. that your broke and hauling cheap freight to try to stay afoat.. that come's from the guys that seem to think that's the ELDs greatest thing since sliced bread.. I've had a few exchanges with them Iam pretty sure their the same ones that park at the fuel islands for 2 hrs because their to lazy to walk from the back row and they are worried about wearing their flip flops out .. I know who they are and I've seen a few of them crying on here already.
Now we'll see who has the last laugh..

While its true that some drivers do quit because they can't handle the lifestyle, many are retiring from the industry the Airlines are also facing the same dilemma, with many pilots at the retirement age level so when you combine those that retire with those that can't handle the industry it makes for quite a large number of drivers.

As a shiny new driver fresh off the boat, if I were to up and quit tomorrow it'd probably be because of the unpaid working but not technically working hours, the insane levels of traffic, packed truck stops, the lack of CMV friendly infrastructure especially in major cities, rude/incompetent shippers, how much of a pain it is to simply have a piss and shower. HOS and the ELD is annoying but they're so far on the bottom of my list of reasons to quit, probably down there with sexist ####### truckers.

If my truck had a speed limiter I'd probably put that one at the top of the list.

Move to flatbed and drive during the night. All those problems go away.

    Lots of whine in here...

On the original post. There's nothing wrong with an ELD. It's a tool that keeps you from manually having to record your work. It also keeps the super Truckers in this thread. From fudging the logs and running illegal.

HOS? Many responses here. Have proved the point of why we need it.

"I'm super Trucker. I should be able to just keep rolling. For as long as I want." Which is why you have fatigued and tired drivers falling asleep at the wheel and/or not keeping proper control of the truck. Too many fatalities from these idiots.

For company drivers. HOS keeps them from being abused. For O/o. HOS keeps us safe from the super Truckers in this thread.

ELDs and HOS have never protected anybody from anything. If the ability to know when they need to stop to sleep makes one a super trucker what does needing someone who's never sat in a truck much less drove one make someone?

    Respectfully you're wrong.

HOS protects company drivers from being ran into the ground.

The super Truckers don't know when to stop and sleep. It's why they fall asleep at the wheel and kill someone.

A smart driver might. But because of the idiots...

You hit the nail on the head .. look at your post date.. and I can hear the crying .. but their using the cheap freight rates & high fuel costs for their arguments.. rightfully so.. but it's still happening..lol
A some point when reality sets in and they realize there won't be 5.00 per mile loads and fuel isn't going back to 2.80 per gallon.. then the HOS card will start getting played more
That's when the word greed will become extinct from these discussions and be replaced by the word survival.. funny how that works...

If 70 hours isn't enough to make money. You're doing something wrong.
