So I found this "stuff" packed around the inlet ports of my fuel filter. I've never, ever seen anything like it before. Only difference is that my last filter change was done by a TA newbie. It almost has the consistency of caulk. The heated fuel definitely has had an affect on it. Any ideas?

Insides of fuel lines coming apart? Usually looks all black, more consistent. That looks like rat poop.

Some fuel has a little tar or asphalt in it.When the fuel is heated it separates and ends up like this.

I would cut the filter open and see how much was in the pleats. Also check the walls and bottom of fuel tank. I'm going to go with asphaltene if it was algae it would be slimy. All it takes is one fill up from a contaminated storage tank with no filters at the pump to give you months of headaches
