I was stopped by DOT other day in Ohio..... im curious

I have done this twice & both times I was thanked by the officer.

 

Most officers are smart enough to not hit the lights until you are close enough to a good place to pull over, however some drivers are not smart enough to realize that and pull over in the worst spots

 

I read this whole thread and didn't see the words "U S Marshals" anywhere.

The truck in the avatar was equipped with the famous kick out steps. they would extend 3 feet when the truck was parked, brakes on.
I had a wise ### Texas Highway patrol with a rookie trainee stop me on the side of I-10 outside of San Antonio at 10:30 on a Saturday night.
He and his trainee walked up to the drivers side.
I rolled down the window, showed him both hands and offered to follow him to the next exit ramp, which was only 1/2 mile down the road.
He instead yanked on the drivers door handle, opening the door, the steps deployed, which he was not expecting, and it literally forced him into the travel portion of the highway with cars traveling by at 70 mph.
He said "What the Fxxx is this" . I calmly made my offer to him to go to a safer location for the inspection.

He closed the door, they went back to the patrol car and screamed off....

 

Unfortunately- getting a license means that it’s a privilege we get to drive on the roads - a privilege that can be revoked!

 

You got it. Dumpy little shack that doesn't even look open/functional. I also had a rookie there demand a log book from me while I was driving a straight truck. Told him I was local and under the mileage radius. He didn't care. I had to get his supervisor to straighten him out.

 

I will tell them very nicely, if I want to move, that I do not feel safe stopped in this location, and want a safer place. that way if accident occurs, you warned them.
I nearly always have been told ok to go to safer place..

I always yes-sir, no-sir, very polite. It pays off.

 

Sure u can say whatever u want to say to the dot guy... They will tell you pulling you over is random. But its not . they profile just like every other cop out there... But just understand if u mouth off to the guy u make it difficult for him not to go prying for something. And he will find something. And if he doesnt find something then he will make something. Those guys are corrupt more than any other police officer out there... I show them respect every step of the way even when sometimes it is hard to do so...the times i have mouthed off to them . it was justified and was usually after i got my paperwork for a clean inspection.. Thats when you can call them a piece of ####. But 8 times out of 10 they are respectful and theres no need to show your annoyance.

 

I was on my way back from Dallas to Houston a couple years ago. There’s a large scale house north of Conroe just south of Huntsville and it’s only on the Northbound side and I’m going southbound. State trooper pulls me over comes to the window and no pleasantries no how are you today he just says to me “Gimme your License” so I give it to him and he puts it in his pocket and tells me to turn around at the next exit and get on the northbound scale and then pull in for an inspection and then he’ll give me my ID back. I thought it was weird and I’m a former military cop and I didn’t really think much of his demeanor, but I did what I was told. I had just delivered a full trailer in Dallas and had an empty so no worries there. I get off the scale and pull in for the inspection and he says well you didn’t tell me you were empty. Then he gives me back my ID and ask so what did you do in the Air Force, my license has a stamp on the bottom that says Veteran US Air Force. So I answered I was in the security forces, oh so you were a cop he ask. Yeah I was I told him. Oh ok, well you’re truck looks good we’ve had a lot of overweight trucks going southbound so we’re trying to get the message out that even if there’s not a scale on that side they’ll still be subject to weighing and inspection. Well I’ll spread the word I tell him. Have a nice day sir and thank you for your service. I resisted the urge to say and thank you for the free weighing.
