The person in question quit for a few years to run his own truck and then came back. Otherwise he’d be way up the list.

Happens alot apparently. At least at the couple places I've driven at.

Had a guy come in after me, who previously worked at this company. I was at the bottom of seniority list, running vacation relief, not knowing what I was doing from week to week. Getting stuck doing overnight runs to NJ one week and then the next week doing a 3am start time run. Crap was tough on the family and on the body, not sleeping and what not.

This guy came in though, friends with management. He was also then on "vacation relief" but got the cake runs.

Then a route came up for bid because the previous guy retired. It was a crap run, early start times and Sunday work, no one there bid on it but I did so I could get off vacation relief and have some normalcy in my schedule. Dont that scumbag bid on it? Management then gives it to him. I had some words with management, stating that things go by SENIORITY and I started 4 weeks before him. They played stupid like they "made a mistake". The following week he was still on that route. I ended up grieving it and I was "awarded" the route.

Point being, if these people coming back to a company are friends with the management, keep an eye out for that.

It’s not so much that they want all of it, they just don’t want the junior guys sitting at home starving to have any of it.

The word I haven't seen on here yet that I think we can all agree upon is "entitlement".

You have all of these new drivers (or older new drivers) that want what the rest of us have, but they don't want to put the time in to get it. They much rather lean on their backdoor deal making and social engineering skills to separate us from what we have so they can take over.

It's the one thing I find absolutely disgusting how entitled people feel that they should just get stuff for no other reason than them wanting it. I just hope the rest of you guys have strict company policies (or contracts) in place that protect your seniority.

I wouldn’t go that far. I personally don’t care if it’s a 4 hour 200 mile run or an all day 600 mile run. If there’s extra runs to be had I better get one of them. A junior guy with enough hours can do the long one if he wants as far as I’m concerned.

    No, that doesn’t fly here.

But that doesn’t stop some people from THINKING it does.

My comment was not aimed at you. It was aimed at the selfish F@@@@@s at UPS in the early 2000’s that were working 60 hours and wanted an extra day on Sat before the bottom of the board got a punch. It was a HOG Board and that is how it worked, but it still sucked. Once I had time in and several hundred drivers below me I was more than willing to share the wealth.

I am generally a seniority prevails kind of thinker, but I also think a first in first out dispatch or a wheel dispatch for those on the extra board makes it better on every one. The HOG boards tend to starve those at the bottom and they eventually leave. Then because the company is shorthanded those at the top who don’t want to work 70 hours get forced. If you let everyone make a live able weekly wage it will eventually benefit all those working there.
