Lawsuit filed against police for 122 shots fired at driver in mental crisis
Had Delivered a Load and went to the Wrong Warehouse For A Load.
Police were contacted after he parked at the wrong warehouse.
The driver, 39-year-old Glen ####rum, was killed in Nogales, Arizona last year.
Now, his mother, Cora Waller, wants the officers involved to take responsibility for what she sees as an excessive reaction. The lawsuit was filed against eight Nogales police officers, one Santa Cruz sheriff’s deputy, the Nogales Police Department, and Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department
......officers eventually fired 122 shots into ####rum’s truck cab in 90 seconds, killing him. ####rum never left the cab of his truck from the time police were called until the time he was killed.

That’s excessive. Why not just shoot the tires out?

Police really do need to use a softer approach when dealing with truck drivers. Especially OTR drivers. There are moments when we are just completely burned out. Flipping our schedules from graveyards back to mornings getting no sleep, broken sleep, maybe we had several bad loads, got stuck somewhere, and things pile up and the perfect storm comes together and then you get some young punk cop banging on your door giving you a $500 ticket for parking on the side of an offramp or something. And he has an attitude. I can see how it can happen. People can only be pushed so far.

I wish her the best in her lawsuit. Even with his mental challenges he was still out there working, earning, not sucking off the system. "The officers involved have already been exonerated after an investigation found the shooting to be justified." A slow speed chase, never got out of the truck, and 122 shots is justifiable? They were probably all high 5'ing one another too and mouths watering over the smell of blood. Scumbags.

I guess 6 officers, 3 magazines each.
I’m Monday morning quarterbacking here, but if they feared total destruction from a rabid semi driver, like I said - shoot the tires - or 122 rounds into the engine bay.Boondock, Another Canadian driver, gentleroger and 4 others Thank this. -
122 rounds?? I guess they’ve never heard of stop sticks! I wonder how many magazines did they go through! Either way there’s something seriously wrong with the law enforcement there.

About 1 year into my career, a NE state police woke me up for parking over the line in a rest area. I wasn’t blocking any traffic. I was a rookie and tired, and he just wanted to be a douche bag.
I argued with him, he wrote me a ticket - and told me to leave.
I’m not the best beast on earth when woken up, and had he been the wrong kind of cop - may have shot me had he ‘perceived a threat’.Boondock, Another Canadian driver, mjd4277 and 3 others Thank this. -
It’s stories like this that make me worry even more about my son every time he puts on his uniform and goes to work. Once again, a few bad apples ruin it for all of the good ones.

i don't even see how anyone with schizophrenia AND is Bipolar, is even allowed to operate any vehicle, let alone an 18 wheeler.
he must have displayed some sort of behavior that was dangerous to the warehouse employee, and he feared for his life.
and this from the lawyer
how do we know if the schizo didn't claim he had a gun..??
cops ain't doctors, they ain't got the time to evaluate someone with mental issues.
they only have the time to REACT to the situations they are presented. he could have easily stuck something out the window that at the time, resembled a gun
again, why was he even allowed to have a CDL in the first place?Boondock, Coover, Another Canadian driver and 4 others Thank this.
