Starting to regret trucking school

I was terrible at backing. It takes practice. As far as driving yes it is very intimidating at first. My rule always is don’t make quick decisions. Keep your distance from other semis and four wheelers but you will be fine. Truckers are very good with helping truckers out. Like if you go somewhere and have trouble backing and others see a lot of times truckers will get out and help you guide the truck in where it needs to be. You are most certainly in your head about things, you need to stop that immediately. No one ever graduates cdl driving school as a great driver. Yea some or better than others but like I said my key things are keeping my distance for others on the road. Do not make quick decisions like lane changes or taking exits and just practice. The more you are in the truck the better you get. Now I have 4 years driving and I still respect this machine im driving and I just take my time getting places. You must get yourself out of your head.

Your hesitation and concern in your abilities is a sign that you will be a good driver with time. You'll make mistakes, we all have. Just don't keep making the same ones, right. Good drivers don't happen overnight. You'll be fine and good luck in your career. Heck I drove 40 yrs and still can't back up.

 

Trucks are no different than rank bulls and grizzly bears. You have to treat them with respect, the moment you lose that they have a habit of killing you.

 

Most drivers come out of school with a CDL and still need a lot of work to get backing under control. Get with a good training company after you graduate and that's when you'll start to get better. It will take time as others have said. For some more time than others, few are good from the start. Just always take your time and don't rush. Get out and look, stop and figure things out. Do what your head tells you to do, and you'll be fine.

Also you can download and play for free EuroTruck Simulator and American Truck Simulator for PC. They will both help with understanding backing. You can do incab and outside views.

 

If you wernt scared, I'd be scared. Trust me.
You really need to approach this as an everyday you learn something new kind of thing....... Right to the day you retire.
As far as backing up... there are days I can put this thing on a dime and give you .09c change. I even impress myself.
Then... there are days I cant get it straight to save my life, and I realize I'm a 20 yr, however many miles, rookie.
Take your time, you'll get this.
As much as some days I hate this, I wouldn't change it for the world.
