I’ll try to keep it simple:

I hit an unoccupied car parked on the street with my semi. Apparently the guy doesn’t have insurance, which is illegal in the state of California since he has it outside. My question is: would it be wise to ask my company not to pay anything to this guy that way the claim payout is 0 and it’ll just be a preventable accident without a monetary compensation?

I only care because I know the amount matters and it would be beneficial for me when it comes to getting a vehicle insurance in the future. Or even getting hired by another company.

I don't think his not having insurance has any effect on your obligation to pay for damages you caused.

    Every state requires insurance.

But that's irrelevant since YOU hit CAR.

I'd tell them to pay nothing, and seek to have the owner of the car arrested for breaking the law.

    truckdriver31 Thanks this.

The car was parked. Doesn’t need insurance. Look at junkyards. You hit HIM. You pay.

Next time ask the owner, "hey buddy, do you have collision because I'm about to hit your vehicle? OK, thank you."

bottom line, YOU HIT a parked car. no excuses for that.

you're at fault, the car was minding it's own business.

had that car been on the road, as in driving, and got into an accident, the cops could write him up for THAT violation at least.

but, YOU HIT a PARKED car...no excuse.

    owe up and pay up.

besides, it's not up to you whether or not the insurance pays or not.

and IF they did listen to you, and did not pay as you requested..??

the owner can drag your butt into court, and MAKE YOU PAY..

now, you'll lose a day's pay, court costs, and the the damages..

    truckdriver31 and flood Thank this.
