Someone posted a recording yesterday of a CFI executive saying very recently that an electric semi would cost them $375k. A hydrogen combo semi would be almost $600k. I would tend to trust his words since they have thousands of trucks and trailers and are heavily vested in equipment purchasing.

The electric motors can probably handle it, but it will suck the life out of the batteries.

That sounds about right, but the context is that certain states that have lost all sense of responsibility to the tax payers (such as New York and California) have incentives for commercial EV's as high as $175 THOUSAND, EACH.

So, naturally, manufacacturers price the EV's with that in mind, so as to not leave money on the table.

Let's see, 300 gallons of Diesel fuel on a truck. Energy density (energy per volume) of Diesel is 38.6 MJ/L, total energy stored in the tanks is 43.8 Gigajoules. But luckily, the fuel is stored away from any oxidisers (put simply, the vast majority of the fuel does not have oxygen mixed with it), so it's not gonna explode as long as there's no physical damage.

However, that's the same amount of energy as 10.476 tonnes of TNT.

Can't wait for the lawsuits that follow when the Tesla Semis start making random, unpredictable 5–10 ton explosions.

Lots of New Vehicles "Look Nice" and have since the '60's!!

37" Tires would have been interesting, not likely practical, on a '64 Cheby El Camino!

No Weight Statistics, odd how hummer navigated around that important bit, like when a hummer is sitting on top of a smaller electric vehicle at an intersection conundrum, WEIGHT MATTERS!!

Ok, so with the Ford and the optional big battery, you have a advertised range of 320 miles. The guy towed a 6,000 lb trailer on flat ground and the range was cut in half. You throw in some hills and battery age and you’re probably looking at a 2/3 reduction or more.

And it's not just the energy density... Lithium batteries make nasty fires that don't like water. There's a reason they're restricted freight on aircraft.
