Quitting over the road for home nightly and the economy

I'm actually thinking about going back to sleeping in a truck, because rent is going up and houses are out of reach at this point. Can't forget about gas either. Almost $200 month just to get to work.

At $26.00 per hour,, 55 hours per week, 40 regular, 15 overtime would only gross $1600.00 per week.

Just for comparison;
JB Hunt is offering a dedicated Costco route, guarantee of $1650.00 weekly, drop and hook, 50 hours a week, two consecutive days off.

 

Just to play devil's advocate, should that JB Hunt job be more than 50 hours some weeks, would there be more pay involved? Or is it just salary?

If you're hourly, no matter what happens, you benefit. Usually with time and a half, if the company is worth a ####.

 

I’d get a recession proof job right now. Remember even if you want a non-trucking job, HR will mistakenly attribute your employment to your ability and not circumstance. Because HR.

Never count on overtime with a local job.
Just take while it there. Set your budget at 40 hours per week.

Not when you clock in and clock out.
Add those hours up and that's what you really make.

You don't get paid for the commute,
Whatever it is, and it cost you time and money in gas.
you'll work like a dog unloading trucks everyday.

The home every night means nothing.
You'll only have time to eat, watch 30 minutes of television,
Then go to bed. Then do it all over again.

You'll get relief on the weekend.

Only on this forum, does every local guy get 30 bucks an hour
Plus time and a half, and work 60 hours per week.
In the real world, almost all local jobs are 20 bucks an hour,
With no overtime,unless authoritized for some unusual reason.

Most will make sure you are back at the yard before you
Hit the 40 hour mark.
In other words, don't count on the overtime for your bills.
