It's happened twice in the past week. Must pre-cool to 35 and set at 35. First place just said do not freeze on the BOL. The second said 33-80 do not freeze. First was bottled drinks second was canned drinks. Why does the broker want me to waste fuel? I set both to 70 and ran with it.
Why do brokers want you running do not freeze loads at 35?

If you want to pull reefer and ignore temp settings, don't cry about a claim. Or go back to a van/open deck.

Well, if the BOL says 35, I set it at 35. But, with a range like 33 to 80, yea, I'd set it at 70 and not worry.
I've had numerous loads that simply say don't let cargo freeze. So, reefer stays off unless outside temp goes below 32, then I'll turn the reefer on to 40. That just what I do. Haven't had problems yet.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Pretty much no difference in fuel at 35 vs 70. Once it gets to the set point. Like a fridge. If you leave the door closed. It does the same work keeping it at one temperature. Plus reefer units barely use any fuel. So your risking a claim to save pennies. Not very smart.

Do not freeze in June? Reefer is off.
Do not freeze in winter? Turn reefer on, close doors, wait for boot process to complete. Set temp to current box temp (Ex. 43.2 in box, set to 43; 57.5 in box, set to 58). This uses the least amount of fuel, as it is maintaining the product at the warehouse/production facility temp.RefMata and buzzarddriver Thank this.
