Observations on a CC trip, with an unexpected finale

I went on a trip from central Colorado to Portland Or. last week. I want to say, while a forum like this deals with the mishaps, that seem non-stop, we rarely hear the good. This post is a mix of both,,read on,,
I rented a car, drove pretty much non-stop( still got it, adjusting tie) with a small nap around Boise, I drove over 2700 miles, encountered literally HUNDREDS of trucks, and didn't see as much as a scuffed sidewall. I thought our drivers did a fantastic job, considering what they have to put up with. A tip of the hat to all, good job,,HOWEVER,,,one is bound to see a problem, and here it is, and it's a doozy.
I returned the rental car in Gunnison, Co. about 70 miles from my home. It requires crossing the Monarch Pass. I followed a semi up one side( challenging curves) over the summit, and down the other side. The truck exhibited no sign of trouble. As we approached my little town, there is a stoplight outside the local Walmart. Again, being right behind the semi, I had a front row seat, going about 40, maybe, this driver begins to drift over the center line. Talk about a helpless feeling, I thought, I'm going to see this driver kill himself or someone. Perhaps my neighbor. They cross over oncoming lanes( undivided 4 lane), luckily, the light was red, so no oncoming traffic, they proceed down into the ditch, dust flying, took out a road sign, narrowly missing a pole, that took off the left mirror, yanks the wheel, back across the oncoming lanes,, back in my lane, and tries to turn left into Walmart,,not sure for a delivery or for new shorts.,,It's an absolute miracle they didn't hit anyone, and if they hadn't drifted into the left ditch, they surely would have plowed into stopped traffic,,,it gets worse. I wanted to get home, so the next day, I called the sheriffs office to tell them what I saw. Dispatcher said, CSP is handling the case, turns out, this driver had no CDL and was driving for 2 days. Shocking? You bet. The company name was "Cass Trucking", no city, but this tells me, people need to work, and however this driver got in, the company clearly didn't care. How can you not know a driver doesn't have a CDL?
Anyway, on a trip of that duration, I'm surprised I didn't see more. There are an estimated 1400 truck crashes EVERY DAY! Some, go unreported, but statistically, they are rare, and I just want to say again, I think the drivers, overall, do a fantastic job.

 

Ah, no, see how spoiled we are? I was in my pickup and even if I had a phone that did that, it happened fast.
I'm surprised there wasn't more response on the driver with no cdl. To be honest, this driver wasn't a rookie, the way he made it over the pass like a pro, he just fell asleep, is all. The recovery was nothing short of amazing. I'm wondering if we won't be seeing more of this, drivers without proper credentials, like a giant middle finger to the industry. I told you the "outlaws" will return,,,
