And so it begins, two large companies acquired in the same day. Many more to come in the coming months.

Most of the time, when some investment group buys a company, it closes within a year or two. The usual M.O. is that they pile a ton of debt from other companies in their portfolio onto the trucking company, file for bankruptcy and close up shop, washing a bunch of debt off their hands in the process.

Sad but true. When PIE shut down it happened exactly that way. Follow the money.

That’s one of two scenarios. But I agree with you that it’s the most likely to happen.

The other scenario is that they squeeze the company until it’s held together by a shoe string making it look better on paper and then dump it for a profit.

But the second scenario is more typical in other industries. And given where the economy is going, your scenario is vastly more likely.

If I worked there, I’d be looking for an exit.

Nah, private equity firms are always looking for discount assets to scoop up for their portfolios. Freymiller and USA Truck have had some issues recently. With USA Truck, DB schenker may have bought them to support their already extensive warehouse operations. They wouldn’t necessarily have to turn a profit on the trucking and may save money paying themselves to move their own stuff DC to DC.

    bzinger and gentleroger Thank this.
