Worried about CDL being stale and becoming unhireable?

A neighbor of mine graduated from CDL school, then went into a different occupation; not driving.
10 years later he decided to drive trucks and had no trouble at all finding a job.
He went with Reddaway.
Keep your DOT Medical Card up to date and you won't have any problems being hired by a trucking company.

 

Why not apply for local jobs so you can use your CDL and be home?

 

It depends on which company you try to work for. Don't be surprised if a trucking company wants you to go through "refresher training" before hiring you. Some companies will just stick you with a trainer for a period until they are satisfied you know what to do.

 

I got my CDL in May of 2017.

I started driving for Schneider in March of 2019.

Yes....some companies may get their panties all in a wad over your time "gap".

Others....will not.

Shop around--it's very much a driver's job market right now.

Based on what I'm seeing--I predict it will become even moreso in the future.

Depends upon the company and the local job.

We have local positions for CDL grads, fresh or otherwise. No experience requirements... but it is driving a spotter truck at different facilities we service. Meanwhile our Regional Fleet requires 9 months' experience, minimum.

You never know what a company's policy is unless you talk to them.

 

Abilene Motor Express is in Richmond. It's an OTR company, but probably have some local work picking up loads for the OTR drivers.
