I liked it there but I didn't stay long enough to really know the place. As a left coast person I couldn't get used to the sun coming up over the ocean and going down over the mountains. The people were great and the food was outstanding.
My friends are both retired from government service and I think their combined pensions keep them from worrying too much about bills.

I've vacationed in NE many times and love it there, but only in the spring and fall. Summer is hot and to heck with the winters. At this point in my life, I no longer want to deal with snow. That's why I'm heading for the Oregon coast.

I lived in western Massachusetts for a few years in the Berkshires. It's a beautiful, nice place to live.

You're doing the right thing. Just be sure to get the Oregon plates on your car as soon as you can. I saw a sign in The Crazy Norwegian in Port Orford that said "We don't give a #### how you did it in California". Just a bit of hostility there but really great fish and chips.

Most everyone who works locally in the northeast does some kinda construction hauling in the summer. And hauls propane in the winter, or plows snow or hauls salt.
In the Spring haul landscaping bark or flatbed stuff to landscaping yards .

Oh I'm very familiar with how they feel about Californians up there. Heck, I don't blame them. It's probably going to be close to a year before we're up there full time. Getting good contractors out to the coast for a remodel isn't easy. But yeah, as soon as we sell our CA house, we'll be OR residents.
