Running general freight. Need at least 6 foot for sure. Not going to be crazy about tarping 8ft loads. Should I just go ahead and buy 8ft instead of 6 anyways? Also a set of steel tarps for beams, angle iron and stuff. Looking at mytee products and they have a lot of different options. Pulled covered wagon and conestoga all my life.

    cke and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Just stay away from ultra-light or any tarp specifically for covering packaged lumber. By the time they’re a year old they’ll weigh the same as an 18oz tarp from all the patches. One thing to think about, I had 4 piece sets for covering b-trains made at 18’x24’ with a flap and webbing and d-rings run both ways on them. Steel or shorter loads you could turn the tarp and fold the flap under. Presto, 24’ tarp with 5’ drops. They worked well for covering LTL or steel. With all the extra d-rings you could cover just about anything with them and keep them tight.

Not much difference between a 8ft and 6fter. You can get paid good money when u have to throw the 8s... I used to carry 8's and 4's . Most things can be covered with the 4's

Now we know why you have problems with women. You keep trying to convince them that 6 is the same as 8. :biggrin_2559:

I used to have 3-20'x24' machinery tarps and 2-16'x24' steel tarps. Always preferred square tarp to flaps That'll cover everything. the 20 x 24's are 8' one way and 6' foot the other way with lots of d rings for keeping it tight. The steel tarps were 4' drops and could double as an 8' on rare occasion. I would rather handle 3 o 4 lighter tarps than two that weighed 90+ lbs. Besides, I rarely used all of them at one time. And if you haul OS stuff, lots of smaller tarps are easier to handle than 1 bigger one.

Never been a fan of the parachute (light) type tarp. They are a pain to fold in the slightest wind. Great to handle when rolled up but a fart in the wind will have you cussing a storm.

    Mytee 27 x 24 (8 ft drop) 18oz lumber tarp.

    Mytee 20 x 24 18oz (8 ft drop) lumber tarp.

    2 steel tarps.

Went with mytee tarps because they had the best deal and the beefiness of the 18oz tarps didn't disapoint. This setup should cover all your tarping needs if you've got a 48' flat.

    CAXPT Thanks this.

My company supplies a 3 pc set of 8’ drop tarps. All are 18’ long and 24’ wide. Two have flaps, the center piece has no flap but 4 way d rings. (D rings on all 4 sides) Add a 16x24 or a 16x32 if your feeling froggy and you can cover a lot of different loads with not having to much extra tarp.

Those work for legal loads. Smaller tarps might be easier to handle but they suck for big oversize loads.
    A 40x40 and two 24x27 with flaps vs a single 40x60. I’ll take the 40x60 any day. Just my opinion. A0067A36-70C5-46CE-B528-F75CB6C0C77F.jpeg 27BF819F-9769-41D1-920B-29FA742D1571.jpeg
