Funny. When kw fixed my coolant tank. They gave me the rest of the container for the truck. Guess it depends on who you're dealing with.

Don't forget about shop uniforms which they need to send to laundry every week, and the degreasing soap to wash hands after the job.
These thing are shop supplies because the shop supplies them
Essentially, you were not mistreated by their charging you for shop supplies but by their taking advantage of it at your expense. For a 5 minute simple job, it should have been less.

    YardMule89 Thanks this.

The story is he needed something to grumble about. So he picked a practice that has been in place since I was a kid.

Not all the shops have to be like that.
When they were fixing a punctured hole in my trailer roof, a random, googled out Ohio shop used a piece of old aluminum sheet and then they sold me a brand new looking landing gear crank handle for $10, which I would have paid even $100 as mine was about to fall off. The whole bill for 1 hour job was about $140 with shop supplies and the crank handle included. I left there feeling as if they did me a favor.
And thought, that perhaps I should have offered them more $ for the crank handle...

Midwest Trucker and YardMule89 Thank this.

Not the whole bill just what you are complaining about . What were you taxed $17 dollars for?

    You showed 3 lines.

I agree $35 is high. Looking at my 2 invoices from the Peterbilt dealer I use it looks like their shop fee is 10% of the labor charge. To me a percentage makes the most sense over a higher flat rate you got dinged for.
