A C15, even an Acert, with a file in it earlier than ‘04 is ok. If it came with or was updated to the EPA ‘04 file avoid it. Cat should have thrown their hands in the air 3 years before they did. 3406E would be a better option. It’s a solid engine to start with, and you can work with the 40 pins.

Wonder what kind of fuel mileage I could get with a little 48ft tandem tucked up behind my bunk?

Ive got an '07 C15 Acert 475 in this W9. Its been turned up to 550 and twin turbo'd. Its got 1.56 mil on it and seems to run great... Burns a little oil but gets about 5 mpg doing short local stuff. That's loaded to 100k to 106k 50% of the time. Its got an 18 and 3:36 rears behind it.

Depends on the motor and you right foot relationship to the right peddle.

Many years ago when I pulled a 45’ slat sided Wilson with a 78 359 with 1693 TA, I would get 3.5-4.5 depending upon the load weight and expected delivery time.
