You can make a lot more if you can get in ups ground but I’d say it be harder to do. I’d say R&L Is way more laid back than the rest but you can prolly do 3k at old d or Estes. Id say you would get a bid run faster with R&L. I’m not a big fan of being bothered or a bunch of BS. R&L was good laid back place with good equipment. Trucks at old D don’t look the greatest and Estes well i didn’t team there but I ran solo and equipment wasn’t the best on the road. No gyms at R&L it’s all cross dock hubs. Some of the bigger terminals had a shower but we just used pilots. We showered every day on switch out in the afternoon. We did 2-2 every day. No per diem. You just claim your days out on tax return.

big terminal in ellenwood for R&L at the QT exit off i675. Good chance to get a nice bid run.

I came off the road and went back to a FedEx ground contractor I used to work for. Run solo. I’ll do 115k this year.

Think of LTL like a regualr job. You gotta run your days like going to work in a factory. It’s not flexible like otr

So i can claim per diem on my tax return then nice. Does that help your return at the end of the year i dont have kids just me and my wife and i own a house im 33yrs old by the way so still young. I hear rl gives raises quite often though so im sure it balances out if they have consistent miles and you can drive 75mph you make up a lot of time? Who do rl fuel with if you need fuel? Good to know Ellenwood is about 45-60 miles from my house not bad. Can i park my car there for the week?

Man 115k solo at fedex thats really good im team and i wont get anywhere near that at fedex there miles for teams aren't there. The more you respond the more rl sounds like the right fit. Just have to gety hazmat i moved from California to Georgia so whenever you move states you have to take the hazmat test over again why idk some stupid rule.

Yeah we try to run a set 10-12hr schedule as well 12hrs when you gain an hour or two and 10hr shift when you go back ahead 1-2hours in Central or eastern time zone. Good to hear we will have plenty of time to shower i need my showers but not always possible thats funny we also run a set schedule between 12-3pm to 12-3am or vice versa and if i started the week at say 6pm i would just drive till 12-3am and switch then wife would drive her whole shift and stay on schedule for the rest of the week the best we can. We both hate driving nights so this schedule splits the day light as even as possible for both winter and summer. Usually places give teams newer trucks with lower mileage and solos the old team trucks so its possible old d and estes give there teams better trucks then you have experienced but i also wouldn't put it past these places to give you junk either.

Ups too many #### politics and seniority issues and wearing poop uniforms but im not opposed. Spoke with a guy who said ups is kick back as well once your hired on i did a few dedicated ups runs for outside carriers it sucked had to hold my poop in for 8hr from compton ca to salt lake city utah im not kidding you couldn't be late they had a 100% on time delivery as part of the agreement so we left after a few months of that torture and never wanted to work at ups because of it.. i know everyone who works at ups thinks there set for life and loves the money and will basically take a bullet for ups they aint going no where i get it union protection kind of i suppose. I have a house so i need more money so i can save and remodel and just have emergency funds.. im going to start day trading crypto currency and hopefully in 4-5yrs be done with trucking forever.

I have a buddy whos been day trading for 1.5yrs and has profit over 200k net this is my best friend by the way not just some guy i know. Hes going to teach me but unfortunately i need capital for that so thats why i need the highest paying job possible.

Ups sounds good on paper but i doubt you will get 7k miles every week at top pay .94cpm if you did that would be about 3200 gross i know they pay 40$hr top pay to get fuel and probably some other factors so add maybe another 100-200 on top of this great money but it takes 4yrs to make that if you do 7k miles a week which you wont standard 5-6k miles so your checks wont consistently be 3k gross a week. I also dont know if ups does per diem so your going to get rape on taxes but if you can stick it out all the politics then yeah ups is the gold standard. But if your saying i can make 3k gross at estes or old d how often can i make that though bet not as often as you grossed 2600 at rl i could be wrong but i just hear all these places pay the same around 89-120k i have heard feeder drivers a ups supposed to make 150k a year but i heard they have to work 7 days a week 70hrs a week all year round to make that. Most people who are about to retire in 10yrs are less do that to stack up for retirement i get it makes sense..

You can’t claim per diem on taxes if you’re a company driver. That went away when the standard deduction was doubled

Very few UPS Teams run over 6,000 miles a week with the exception of December and most run a bid schedule which is the same every week. You don’t need crazy miles at UPS to make crazy money. Depending on the location as to what your starting pay is, but at top pay very few UPS drivers make less than $150,000 a year. That is 5 days a week for hourly drivers and some mileage drivers. Most UPS hourly drivers work 60 hours in 5 days and that is right at $150,000 without working any holidays or extra days. It doesn’t take long to make crazy money if you want it because the first extra day worked over your set schedule is time and a half and the second extra day is double time. Many of the teams only work 3.5-4 day work weeks so they have the opportunity to work one or two extra days a week often making $1,000 a day or better. There are many other great jobs besides UPS, but none have the opportunity to eventually make more money driving a company truck with fully funded pension and free insurance that I am aware of. If you can’t wait 4 years for top pay, don’t go to work for UPS because that is generally how it works. Also getting hired at UPS isn’t like swift, it isn’t guaranteed for most people. If you have a good paying gig now I wouldn’t quit just for more money unless you plan on making a career out of it.

Is it a reasonable statement that plenty of money can be made in 5 days?

Thank for the great info . Im strongly considering ups if i can find an opening in my area for teams near Atlanta Georgia. Ive never talked to a ups driver who ever wanted to leave so that says it all really. I have an end goal and exit strategy in mind. I dont want to truck for 20-30yrs 4-5yrs max is my goal and im out so i know you might say then ups probably isnt for me if im not trying to retire.. i need as much money as possible for day trading but once i get consistently profitable doing that 6 figures a year i retire from trucking. We will see what the future brings for me.. might wait till fall everyone hires during fall seems like for peak season due to holidays. Things will work themselves out im sure of it. Trucking has changed my life for the better for sure.. im grateful..

    ltl usually slows in winter.

UPS is a place you go to stay to retire. If you want to make bank and get out then go to R&L. They will keep you in a new truck. Pass the old to solo sleeper guys. They are privately owned and laid back place. Between both checks going to same account you could could easily make 240k a year gross. Then get out when your ready.

You are absolutely correct.. i wouldn't benefit from ups if im only going to work there 5-7yrs tops. So you suggest r and l forget old dominion teams and just go r and l and make some quick cash. You said they treated you well at r and l correct i hear they are pretty nice to there drivers. I care more about net then gross lol gross i cant spent but net i can so im trying to consistently make 1700-2k net a week take home currently only make 1300 net now those couple hundred dollars more make. Difference take home.. can you run 6-7 days at r and l or only strickly 5 days if your otr or wild whatever they call it these days lol.. i know bid runs are set in stone but wild can i run 6-7 days and capitalize on more money?

Nah ups wants you to start at the bottom at the dock working part time till you have enough seniority or a bid for teams comes up.. my wife is 55yrs old and i just bought a house no way i can survive on part time dock work.. ups would have been a great job but ill never get that seniority to be a team driver.. so thats out of the question unfortunately.. there not going to let someone off the street jump into a truck with a cdl no matter how much experience so im out of luck unfortunately.

Just spoke with r and l and honestly everyone is super nice and they dont sell themselves with lies. They seem to be an honest company who try to care about there drivers i say try because all companies claim they care about there drivers i dont believe any of them do but i do believe some try and it shows when they try. He said they were governed at 70 at the pedal 72 on cruise control not 75mph that i had heard from many people maybe they lowered the speed recently idk. He did say teams paying 80cpm now i dont know if this is starting out or not but seems they will keep raising the pay anyways so over time i can make more money incrementally over long period of time. He seemed very serious about getting a new truck within 6wks they seemed very serious about hometime as well. He said they been busy but freight has slowed down but the drivers are still busy just not as busy as they were. Said the yard hostler at some the bigger terminals already have sets connected or atleast a dolly infront of your lead trailer that sounds amazing and easy work..

So r and l honestly takes top spot for teaming in my opinion as far as pay, equipment and what im looking for. Ill most likely apply in the next few months. When i do i will update you if you care to know and ler you know how there treating us and how our pay checks look.
