I’m looking at spending $450 to get a ride to my company yard so I can start taking the truck home instead of driving back and forth which is getting ridiculous. It’s eats up an entire day off.

For those of you that live far enough away from your company headquarters or yard and they allow you to take the truck home for your days off and resets, what do they do or say when you take Say a week vacation? Or four or five days off? The company I work for likes to use your truck if you take more than three days off. Given that I live five hours away, are they inclined to ask that I leave the truck at the yard? I’m not gonna fork out $450 each time I have to take a couple extra days off. Lol just curious how your company works these things out and trying to decide if it’s worth it for me to change things up or just keep driving back-and-forth.

Also, For those of you that live a good distance from the company headquarters where you work, don’t you feel kind of “trapped”, taking the truck home and not having a personal vehicle at their yard?

It’s not ‘your’ truck. Tuff toenails. Either buy an old beater car, and leave at the yard, or make other arrangements. I hope your not one of those that complain when things don’t get fixed on their truck.

If you have a place to park the truck at or near your home, why not get a load delivering to that area when you go on home time?

I guess it depends on the company and the type of operation.

Any decent OTR company will let you take the truck home and or not try to use it up to a week or so.

    Yes.
It is entirely unreasonable to want the truck working properly.

The days the driver is off for extended days is the prime opportunity for the truck owner, to attend to the issues that need attention. Kinda hard to do repairs when the truck is sitting at the drivers home.

When we started, and were kinda stripped - we had an old beater Toyota Corolla that got us from OKC to Joplin. Spent 3 months out, so the old Toy Motor didn't have to do too much work.

    Good luck.

That’s a given, of course the dispatch would set it up that way. But that wasn’t what I was concerned with. It was about taking extra time off. How other companies might handle that.

Are you sure it’s not “my truck“? Another great quote pissing contest response. Tough toenails he says. Most every trucker I know takes their truck home on their days off. Unless they live right next to the yard. It’s not that uncommon. Your response had nothing to do with my question. Tough guy. Lol
