Even just getting a summer job in Alaska is tough, I had always heard there was good money doing seasonal work up there but I have sniffed around for years and made lots of calls
There is work to be had but wages are not great, at least no one offered me more than 25 bucks an hour
One day while I am still doing this stuff I hope to work up there

Ice Road Trucking Jobs - Tips To Start Your IRT Driving Career
The end of this article gives a list of Canadian companies that haul on the ice. I know Robinson, Westcan and Mullen are the largest ones. Not sure how many of the others are still around.
I drove up to Yellowknife once on the MacKenzie river ice crossing, they have a bridge there now. My own photo following a Westcan tanker in 2005.

The stupid part is, we (Canada/USA) Allow everybody to cross our borders from ANYWHERE, unchecked, except each other?
For a Canadian to get a permit to live and work in the US is impossible pretty much, and the same going the other way?

Meanwhile, your lower border is wide open, and we take them by the plane load. I looked into moving to Florida a few years ago. I Hate, and I mean HATE winter, and I really like florida. It's all but impossible. I'm plenty liquid, I'd bring my truck, and go to work, buy a house, and NOT be sending cash back home. I'm retiring in a year or 2 and would plan on staying.
    Not gonna happen.

I would love to bring my truck to work and live in Florida. I hate winter too.
    I haven't lost hope yet.
While I'm still under unemployment rules,
I'm working to get a RPAS license with Transport Canada ASAP.
Lots to learn, but interesting stuff. May be useful someday soon.

Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems = Drones.
A license is required for any drone weighing between 250g to max 25kg.
Required in Canada. For advanced operations. Civilian not military ops.
Edit: Replaced valid with required. In USA, FAA might implement different rules.

Yeah! I'll send him the names of some of my competitors. Great idea. He won't be bored, that's for sure. Aggravated, cold, wet, tired, mashed fingers, a frost bit nose, and dead broke 'cause the rate is so poor but he won't be bored.

You got a lot of help here. You have to put in some work of your own, too. Stick around and learn something. Or not. Your choice entirely.

Really? No. Info. Including myself. Was given to help you. Learning that is unlikely for you to have a chance is trying to help. Informing you that it's a tight community. That you would need a reference to even get a foot in the door. Is helping. Learning that they will typically only take Canadian people. Is helping.

Just because it's not the answer you want to hear. Doesn't make it any less helpful.

Come on. You've got kids. You know that the answer can't always be yes.
