There’s no shortage of jobs when the ice is in unfortunately the season is getting shorter and shorter. I did it last winter and I don’t think I’d do it again as it was unbelievably slow paced. Running in convoy and doing 30 MPH and max. Westcan & Paul’s Hauling is always looking for guys for the Northern Manitoba / Ontario side hauling Super-B’s of fuel.
Can anyone help me get ice road job. I currently live in Colorado

To add to what Wasted Thyme is saying. I worked with a driver that had 10 years experience driving in northern Canada. He had experience driving winter mountain roads which i believed after being a passenger with him for 2 seasons. Even that guy had his doubts on ever getting a job driving the ice roads. He always said if he ever got that he was set and wouldn't need to drive year round.
What I'm trying to say is. people with experience want that job too. People having proven experience yet they are doubtful of ever getting the chance. If ice road trucking is what you want to do then you need to sacrifice the winter seasons driving in the ditches and making friends to get to the point of even being looked atTrucker61016, Another Canadian driver, Sirscrapntruckalot and 1 other person Thank this. -

Companies hauling on the ice roads are as hard up as any freight haulers. Pauls was begging for drivers to haul fuel as they are every winter. I used to service mines north of Pickle, but got paid round the clock for waiting and sometimes waiting 4 days for road to tighten up. Most companies were not so generous and these days pay squat.
Be wary of late season lake crossings, some contractors will BS you on ice conditions,,remember getting that freight in is all about money and you are disposable. I crossed Shoal lake and few acres had a good 5 inches water on surface, roads leading every which way,,had to go to Rez and fetch a guide to show me which was the correct road to follow. I know two guys that drowned due to poor practices,,,one on Windigo and another up around Pikinagikum.
Any “drama” you see on the tv shows is just that,,,if they have video of you not in control of your vehicle you’ll be banned from the road. For one mine only my crew, and Trimac and the contractor were allowed to haul on the St Joe road,
The first week they allowed freight haulers on who caused nothing but carnage as they were super truckers who refused to use chains,,,you end up off the road without mandatory chains you are left abandoned, Your recovery vehicle will be coming from Ignace if you lucky, otherwise the wreckers are 400 miles away…but you.
