Hello,
Posing this here, because I assume the tankers in this forum would have some insight. Maybe this is a stupid question, but here goes:
Would be possible or feasible to purchase a used oil tanker trailer for non potable water storage? We're looking for inexpensive water storage to fill a water truck for watering riding arenas.
Any insights anyone has would be appreciated.
Thank you!

You want it just as a holding tank basically not gonna be running down the road? If yes than only one question to answer. Does it hold water? If yes use it. If no see about fixing leaks
Feedman, BennysPennys and Cattleman84 Thank this. -
You know for longer than I care to admit I thought those tanks and constructions trucks said “Non PORTABLE Water”. Which struck me as odd since they were literally on wheels. This my friends, is why after 1st grade I stopped making honor roll.

You can look around a bit and maybe find a non-code trailer that used to haul corn oil or something like that. I wouldnt use an asphalt trailer to do that. Theres some nasty stuff in resid. Its basically what's left after refining.
BennysPennys, RockinChair and AModelCat Thank this. -
look for a wrecked stainless tank plenty of them at auctions. or truck paper
BennysPennys Thanks this. -
Your best bet would be an insulated double conical insulated single compartment. you don't wan't it freezeing. double conical means a center outlet, park it higher than your distrubition unit and gravity fill. This type trailer [MC307 -DOT407 spec] has a few 3" washout inlets on top...plumb in a fill and vent and hook it to the water line.
Cattleman84 Thanks this.
