It varies from company to company. Some are monitored by a 3rd party tech company that aggregates footage for activating events that is then sent to safety for the company. Other companies have personnel in the safety department that check the footage daily when signals are sent from an activating event. The common theme here is that an alert is triggered and the company's safety department will be notified in one form or another.

I just realized something. The best thing for you to do is call on Monday morning and self report. That will show greater contrition and ownership of your mistake. Waiting for safety to call you will amount to trying to run from it. Just fully own your mistake, accept whatever consequence, and move on.

i'm on the fence about "self reporting"

only cuz there is an ever so slight possibility that this will get past the safety dept.

i'd rather wait, then admit he screwed up and promises to never do it again.

i dunno, i never had cameras......the companies depended on company rats or citizens to report you

There’s no good way to not sound disingenuous when self reporting this instance, in my opinion. When they call you on it, own it.

Then you are not ready to accept responsibility. I am telling you that it is guaranteed that safety will see the footage.

    But, do what you will.

There is absolutely a way to not sound disingenuous.

    It goes like this:
Hey, just wanting to give you a heads up that I had an incident over the weekend. In the footage you will see my cellphone in hand. I don't know what I was thinking. I will definitely be more careful in the future and keep that phone out of my hand while driving.

    That's it.

    haven't been reading my posts..??

    I AM RETIRED......

whenever i did "some damage" to any truck i ever drove, i marched up to the office and let the TM (terminal manager) know.

rather than a company RAT telling on me.

this camera issue is (to me) different. i say wait till the company calls him in.

after 48 years, i accepted more responsibility than you can ever imagine.

try not to downplay or question, my years, my experience, my character, MY PROFESSIONALISM...

i have more of that, in my pinky, than nearly anyone else has in thier entire body.

If you work for Marathon Petroleum, you're toast.

    Otherwise, what everyone else said.

In the future, "ZERO TOLERANCE" means EXACTLY THAT.

Your TM, Safety Manager, and the Regional Director might all think you're a good driver and great asset to the company, but they'll STILL have to sit across from you at the conference table and say, "Company policy says we have to let you go. Sorry."

I think there's a possibility it won't be seen. I recently set off a hard brake event at Schneider which I felt would have been near impossible to avoid or anticipate given the circumstances. I got the expected call from Safety, and the guy told me he wasn't able to see the video from the event. He said someone higher up probably could but he couldn't for this event. So, he just went based on what I told him, gave me some generic pointers, and that was it. It doesn't sound like this is Schneider since we don't have driver facing cameras, but I think there's still hope.

Desktop computer video drivers ...... I am all to happy that I work in a 4 man company, our boss (1 of the 4) has confidence in his drivers and requires no spy crap.

I run external view camera's for my protection, as well as the boss's for any unavoidable road hazard that does happen, he has video for the insurance (like the 5' flying alligator that I was able to swerve the windshield away from, but not the driver mirror - that gator lasso'd the WestCoast chrome like a Navajo rodeo champ and brought the 'shaker to a full stop! lol).
