Did he say why? Reason I'm asking, is he quoted eight hours on a ONE hour job, even though it not the brake anyway. You don't pull the tranny for a brake. You torch it out, and install a two-piece. So he's already trying to #### you right off the bat on labor, and he KNOWS the brake won't cause the pedal to fall to the floor, but he's running with it.

Please update us, but the guys above are correct. The only reason the tranny would need pulled is if the actual pressure plate or throw out bearing was messed up.

I would say that cat has much larger safety margins in their products and especially years ago…not to mention for the most part they had excellent craftsmanship and the best materials available. I can’t say the same for today. You still have a very good point about gears lasting a very long time and I would bet they’re fine

You need to add labor to rebuild. If you have a good shop that does it, good. I paid $3500 exchange for a reman 13 spd 10 yrs ago. Brand new is very expensive from what Ive been told. I’d guess about $7k for a reman, new clutch, rear main seal, including parts and labor. Should probably just get it done. Or pay another $1000 Labor later if the trans goes out. That’s the only difference, plus any towing and additional downtime. Since it was driven by someone else, I’d swap it out now. My Trucks Trans was rebuilt at 500k, then went bad at 950k, about a year after I bought it. I had paperwork on the rebuild. Previous Owner must have abused it. Current reman has 1.5 mil miles put on by Me. I replaced the clutch, rear main a couple yrs ago, debated on the Trans. Decided to wait. But I know it’s been treated right, should last another 3-5 yrs. or 2 mil miles total. Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself. Lol. If I need a trans, I’ll swap one in, or have it done. No need to re do clutch, it’s good for a mil miles easy, I stopped the practice of just replacing everything just for the heck of it a long time ago. Now it has to make sense. In your case, might be best to just rebuild or swap in a reman.

The brake has nothing to do with it falling to the floor. It’s gonna be the linkage or the throw out bearing came apart. Since it popped I’m betting on the bearing. To disengage the clutch the fork pulls on the throw out bearing, instead of pushing like a smaller rig. It’s gonna need a clutch if that’s the case

Who’s bought a new, (not reman) trans? How much? From where?

    I bought a new Fuller 18 for a customer 2 years ago for 6300$.

I bought a Fuller reman 18 for me two weeks ago for 6200$ which included the 800$ core upgrade from my 13.

So if it IS the throwout bearing, then the tranny DOES have to come out, correct?

Yes, but I figure most of the labor has already been factored in since he is pulling out the tranny, correct? Basically I'm just trying to kill two birds with one stone so I don't have to pay labor twice in case the tranny DOES go bad in the future.
