Idk if it’s changed here in Michigan But I took care of all my endorsements at one time, got back ground checked, when that came back clean went and took all my endorsement tests, failed hazmat and doubles 1st time cause of technicalities…but they held the results of my passing tests came back the next day passed both test and got them added. They charge a 25$ upgrade fee.. so if you add them individually you have to keep paying that fee+5 for the actual endorsement

I remember once doing a drop-and-hook in Aberdeen Maryland. I was headed south and stopped in Richmond at the TA there. I was looking at my bills and noticed I was carrying a drum of Phosphoric acid. I called my company. At the time I did not have hazmat and was concerned. I was told that while Phosphoric acid is considered hazmat. I was told as long as you are not hauling 5000 pounds or more it's OK to haul without hazmat.

Sometimes I get so tired when people go off and quote a rule and won't actually read the exceptions. GO READ 173.29(b)(2)(iv)!

This will be the 3rd time I made this clear! There are some hazmat substances that are considered dangerous IN ANY QUANITY! Then you have other substances that are not considered hazmat until you go past the RQ for that substance.

This is starting to scare me!

Go take the Hazcom class required for new hazmat carriers, or the hazmat test itself. This question is addressed and bulk tankers are considered hazmat UNTIL they are washed out. Just did all of it 3 weeks ago.

I had to do a double take. That section is NOT talking about empty trailers. it is talking about containers.

Packaging means a receptacle and any other components or materials necessary for the receptacle to perform its containment function in conformance with the minimum packing requirements of this subchapter.

I have taken hazmat classes. I have even been part of some great CVSA training on this. You are getting lost in the definition of hazmat! I am trying to tell you that a substance is NOT considered hazmat for the purposes of transportation until there is more than the RQ of that substance. Everything you are saying is dead on when there is more than the RQ of that substance.

There is a fantastic definition of hazmat found in the definitions to 171.8. It is not that simple.
