Dad did courier stuff for a local food store operation. They had the shelf label machine and would drive them and some of the individual stores paychecks.
they had two retired men who drove two 'non-descript' company cars following the routes the company routed avoiding the 'less desireable' neighborhoods.
Mom was able to ride along too. They enjoyed doing it.

 

I was in the US Navy, so odd working hours and watches didn't bother me at all. That's one reason OTR irregular route trucking was a good fit.
Acquired my Ordinary Seaman document, but haven't used it. Shopped around for a job and found one in Singapore that I really wanted. Couldn't get the wife to agree to move there. I'd been there on a Navy ship and really impressed with the place. Found a nice beach front condo to rent; good place for the family, but didn't go to Singapore.
Could have easily found work on cruise ships, but can't stand being around so many people.

 

Well I was a commercial electrician for 22 years.

Did chicken #### little jobs like hospitals and INTEL.

Still have my license and certs. But that's a lot like work.

But for those with no training, no skills, probably have trouble just staying on their feet for 8 or 10 hours.........Flying J and Love's are always looking for a few good men. Or women.

Make it containers and have to use bolt cutters -or- a battery powered grinder to cut the seals on top how heavy those doors are.

Some people handle switching better than others.

We had two flavors; drivers on-site handling all the doors of a DC where we may have only been bringing in a portion of the freight and possibly multiple shifts -or- roving units shuttling containers and trailers around a group of our customers and our warehouse.

We tried to keep the day cabs away from delivering loaded containers after a few shoulder comp cases yet one roving switcher was a lady who looked like she would not be able to open a container but she did every day with a set of bolt cutters and length of pipe.

It is not for every driver. I recommend OP look to operations, first with his own company. If they can't use Op they may know some who can.

Maintenance guy. Ya just ride around on a mower. Replace appliances. You know easy stuff.
