    Hello fellow truckers,
I’ve been a company driver for almost a year now and net 1100-1400$ a week as a company driver. Around $60-70k my first year in this industry. I have saved $40k as I don’t have any living expenses beside food and a little bit credit card debt 5k to be exact. I don’t have a family nor a girlfriend. My father was kind enough to give me a truck fairly used 550k miles automatic trans and it’s free. If I wanted to become an O/O for the same company he is leased too. Is it worth to be an O/O making 7k-9.5k$ gross weekly and I would be home daily. I’ve asked with his insurance how much they would charge me it would be $20k a year. Should I stick with being a company driver or Join my father in O/O world. What is your opinion based of my circumstances!

With only a year driving, & the downturn looming ahead I'd normally say hold up..

Your situation having a no cost hand me down truck, a pop whom is in the business, (assuming he is going to show you the ropes) you will be leasing onto the same company as him, & a $40k nest egg is pretty good. Also you're in one of my favorite places for outbound freight..

I'd think you've got a decent chance at success, keep your operating expenses as low as possible, & do any maintenance, repairs you are capable of doing. Heck I do some now never thought I'd be capable of doing thanks to phone, & hands on support of folks I've met right here..

You are also single with no other mouths to feed if things go south. May never have the opportunity again with so little to lose..?

I'd swap the auto trans out of the truck inherited when it dies though. Seen a 3yr old 10sp Fuller go for as little as $900 bucks..

Better chances finding a girlfriend than finding freight.

You will likely make more as o/o with this type of earning you get as a driver.

BTW, I would still fish around for a better company driver pay. You should be able to make $2k in this area.

At last for now as the freight markets are slow.

Ultimately go o/o if you don’t find a stellar company driver pay.

Why would you carry 5k credit card debt if u have 40k just laying around? That 5k is prob costing you $8-10k. $7-9k Weekly gross on how many miles for area lets assume Chicago. I Think todays market is a rough one to get into with the rates going down and freight going down. Next question i would be asking why is he giving u a fairly used 550k mile truck. Its prob gonna need quite a bit of work at that many miles.

silly question. Is it worth it? What are you asking exactly? You said you’ll gross 9k and be home daily with a gifted truck. Maybe you’re looking for a congratulations.
    Well congratulations. That’s awesome.
