Union friend of mine was union. He was mistaken for a scab, and run off the road and beaten nearly to death.
The beating ruined his career and life. The union didn't apologize to him. After that, I said screw the union; family first. I don't put any truck driver above my family. I don't give a #### what the other drivers think of me.

Call the hall and ask for the Ba's phone number. He/she will help you decide which union company is hiring and which company will be right fit.

i was lucky, i only had the 1 union job. i also do not advocate any violence against the company, equipment, employee's.

i also do not respect any union that strikes and violence erupts.

however, i'd not want a scab worker, working along side with me either.

they either join or get the hell out.

Scab drivers didn't affect my pay or benefits, so I didn't care.
It's enough responsibility taking care of my own life and family without wasting my time thinking about what another driver is doing.

I drove for Caremark here in North Carolina for a few weeks with a temp service. Nice people and a good job, but the hours are horrendous. 2-230 am leaving terminal and delivering to 15-20 gas stations before a return trip. Usually two maybe three loads a week. Good money but unloading a 53' reefer trailer mostly by your self is brutal. 8-10 pallets of bottled water, totes for days, and 30 cases of smokes and dip wast a accounting nightmare with a hand truck. Made really good paychecks, but I am just to old for the manual labor. Younger guys there, that had the same routes all the time loved it.

Yup, the one closest to where you are applying. Ask lots of questions.

I was also union for years in Charlotte NC. When it became a contest to screw over other workers at terminals, union or otherwise, I left. I was over half way up the seniority list..

If I was willing to put up with that I'd just go run heavy equipment and make more than a linehaul or p&d driver, or go back to contracting.. Too many ways to make money to be walking on eggshells..
