Like me, I bet you do things with that drill that make others gasp in horror. I've used it as a diy mill to slot holes. Amazing invention. Every shadetree mechanic/fabricator should have one in their kit.

The actual worst that could happen is a stress crack fractures a split that propagates forward, but at that point, youve probably already got such bad luck, you got hit by lightning twice in a week

    How often?

Very occasionally (1x a year or less) bought this one to redo my tanks/hangars. Same price as last november

If more often (weekly) get a hougen for 1k or a nitto khoki for 2500

Nothing too crazy. We do a lot of custom components but pretty much only just drill holes with it.

Review, for 8 holes + 16 in brackets,
Another 20 or 30 in aluminum for spacers.

    4 out of 5 stars

A good magdrill will shut off after magnet is turned off or loses contact, this one doesnt.

Aluminum as always gums up so go as fast as possible, steel is different, keep it coolant flooded or a few squirts of oil/diesel/kero, it does well, it may be 100 or 200 rpm slower than the hougens or industrial anular cutters, but in steel thats fine, probably makes it even better on stainless, i did not try that.

I dulled 0 bits for using as stationary drill, consider buying a 1/4" sheet of steel, drilling a large hole and then you can mag clamp and drill as if its a drill press

As always a few spots had to remove the handles when drilling the frame, all 3 is never optimal

The gravity feed coolant reservoir is useless, i piut it on, filled with water, turned it on, and immediately took it off and threw it in the trash

Nice thing on this one, comes with a drill chuck too, so smaller holes are a possibility.

Dont know that i would want to use it on 1/2"+material for any real number of holes, but for 3/8" and under, was great

Magnet isnt terribly strong, but i did holes on frame horizontally with nothing but the magnet, didnt remove paint either and there was some mild pitting on magnet face

Perfectly true and tight on the ways, not quite, theres SOME slop, but its dirt cheap, and for what im doing it didnt wobble out holes or worry me, again, this is the harbor freight version, its for a tool youll occasionally use, invaluable when you need it, but not in the budget for the 1-3k$ GOOD one

If youve used a mag drill before, its fine you know what to do, if you havent, MAKE SURE you centerpunch the hole and go slow starting so you dont have the bit walk on you.

Also the slug ejection spring is not all that strong, if it doesnt self eject, run the drill down (while off) to a flat surface, sometimes it needs that to push out the center slug
