Officially I’ve just started researching being a owner operator. I have a year and a half until I purchase my first truck.
There’s a million questions I have so I’ll ask a few.
What’s the best truck to get? New or used. Frieght liner?
What should I have before purchasing my truck?
How much should I have saved?
If I run six days a week will I be able to net about 4K.
Links or advice on your experiences helps. I have three years experience driving a class A vehicle.

New or 2000 and down
Keep saving because you are going to need it, open up a credit card so you can have a high limit on that for emergencies as well. 10k will get you to your first check, but you better have another Atleast 30ish on stand by
why would you want to run 6 days a week?Another Canadian driver and 77fib77 Thank this. -
$30k is about enough for a decent maintenence fund. Not enough for a truck purchase there yet IMO.

Need more than that to succeed
Sure. Some have been able to make it work but everyone’s situation is different and maybe they got lucky with a good problem free truck or lived at home etc?
I would want that much or more in a maintenance fund which if nothing else gives you a little more breathing room and you won’t have to compromise loads or jobs you take
And trucks are on the high side right now so any decent rig will be double thatVampire, Another Canadian driver, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -

You can run the current Truck hypothetically, as if it’s yours. Keeping track of revenue and expenses. Meanwhile study different Trucks and engines/trans. My opinions are of no use. Everyone’s idea of the best Truck, and type of Truckings different. There’s really no right or wrong way. Only the way that works best for you.
