While I agree with you on this, I want to add one caveat though.
Do it as the carrier wants, unless it's obviously illegal like running PC to get to the receiver.

Some carries are better than others.....

nitpicking officer you had, Back on loose leaf days I had a scalemaster tell me to log off duty, he questioned my 2 hour off duty then down to sleeper, i told him anyone who stayed 10 hours in sleeper without getting up to go pee was lying.

Log it like you do it i guess.

Thats the second time I had that same violation. (logging off duty for the 10 hours instead of sleeper birth). Its just frustrating because I was doing it right the second time except for the one day I pressed the off duty button without noticing. Never made that mistake for the previous year except the one week they decide to give me a level one.

Any old timers know when the sleeper birth line was added? I feel like it would have been added for the sole purpose of doing split sleeper breaks. They added it to help drivers have more flexibility but instead law enforcement is weaponizing it against us.

There is no reason why off duty shouldn't be allowed in place of sleeper birth but thats not the case. Legally speaking you probably need to log your bathroom breaks. Thats Orwelian and wasn't the original intention of the sleeper birth line.

No. Short periods out of sleeper do not mean a driver falsified his log.

My take on all this is that somebody in your companies safety department seems to have it in for you, it really is splitting hairs ain't it? While technically they are right, that off duty time and sleeper cab time are different and maybe are supposed to be logged in differently however it is still off duty time. Bottom line was you were not driving and were resting.

We can agree on this, but make sure the motor carrier is going to take responsibility for the consequences.

If you use a jug you are legal--- leave the sleeper to P you are in violation.

I would quit that company ASAP. All the crap we have to put up with and they do this? Never heard much good about KLLM and who wants to go to Jackson Ms. all the time anyway, what a dump.
