Just to be clear about something. CSA-2010 does NOT have any effects on the DMV record. If you are stopped for speeding by a certified DOT cop and that cop also issues an inspection form EVEN if the cop issues a written warning along with the violation on the form that warning WILL NOT go into the DMV. CSA records are Federal and are kept for different reasons. The FMCSA has made it clear that the local courts are NOT supposed to be masking CDL violations.

I have spoken to CDL holders who have got charges downgraded and I have spoken to CDL holders that did not. ALL told me they had attorneys hired. I got a ticket downgraded in Gaston County NC without using one. I for one think it is foolish to ask for a case to be made on the state level just so you MIGHT avoid a possible CSA violation on an inspection that has NO bearing on your DMV and will go away in 3 years. Here is why I think it is foolish. I know a guy that got an 18 over in his POV in Ohio last year. He hired an Attorney and took the case to court and lost. I can't remember the exact amount of the fine, but that Attorney cost him almost $500. Then he had a hotel room and other travel expenses along with 3 days of missed work.

The best way to avoid this? Take some weight off that right foot!

The ticket is over 3 yrs. old?
    You still have a CDL?
If so, we can probably find something for you.
    Where is your location?

Most states do not consider 15 over to be reckless driving
Unless the speed is high enough pretty big difference between 40 mph and 95. A police officer is allowed the discretion to call something reckless driving at will.

Reckless as a citation is typically 30+
15 would be considered excessive speeding

Depends on the state or jurisdiction involved. A few states consider 21 mph and up over the limit reckless driving/endangerment,which will result in you getting free jewelry (handcuffs), “concierge limo service” to the graybar hotel and a future date with a judge to determine any further sanctions.
A couple of weeks ago I had to chew my wife out because she was doing 84 in a 55 zone in her Camry. Even though she works for the state police (she used her state ID to get out of a ticket) the trooper warned her she was not supposed to be doing that. The RMV in our state is under new management and they’re cleaning house as far as licenses go,no thanks to a certain idiot that killed some bikers up in New Hampshire!
That affects both of us because under state law she’s on my insurance policy (and vice versa) and if both of our respective insurance companies had found out about her lead foot we would’ve been screwed!
She is still paying surcharges on her policy due to an accident she was involved in back in 2019(it takes 5 to 6 years to get charges like that off of your record) and she’s currently paying around $360 a month for full coverage insurance on her car.
I pay only $279 a month for full coverage between 2 cars!

What the states say is of no importance. The trucking companies and their insurance company’s opinion is the only one that matters and they consider 15 over reckless driving. Thus, a lot of them will not / cannot hire a driver if they have a 15 over because the insurance won’t cover the driver.
