Dirt lots are nice, keeps the flippy flops at bay.
A toilet and shower are a big plus but not a deal breaker.
Lot Lizard selection is the key to a quality truckstop. Ya just gotta keep a full stable of mid range talent in my opinion.

The "perfect" truck stop? Hmmmmmm....well, let's see....

    • LOTS & LOTS & LOTS & LOTS of parking. Almost all of it "pull thru" parking. Diagonal parking--not side-by-side. Well-lit parking at night--if I have to use flashlights to see what I'm doing--something is wrong!!! Parking lot is actually kept clean, wth garbage cans that actually get emptied often enough. Life is bumpy enough, elsewhere--parking lot is actually paved.
    • A great sit-down restaurant, with healhier menu choices. Open 24 hours. Good "comfort food" options: good soups, stews, chilis, coffee. Don't overdo the salt!!! Hired help that doesn't look like they're on parole.
    • At least several fuel aisles, with truly well-maintained equipment and pumps. If a rig sits for too long at a pump, it gets bumped/towed.
    • A truck service/repair/parts dept, with REAL service, at fair prices, with reasonable turnaround times.:eek: Yes--it's a truly revolutionary idea....
    • Music over the store/restaurant intercom that wasn't written by idiots--for other idiots.
If you can consistently achieve just the above--you will distinguish your truckstop establishment as one of the few.....o_O:rolleyes:

Hey, I'll take the parole trying to keep his nose clean and do a good job over the young punk that doesn't want the job and doesn't care that you're there. :)

All these replies are why the "perfect" truck stop will never exist except in one's own mind. Including my own.

    ;)

For example...mine would offer nothing but tacos. You want something that ain't a taco? You got two options. 1. Go somewhere else, 2. Try to fit it in a taco shell!

The servers would deliver tacos on unicorns, while whistling "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay", and "Danger Zone". The unicorns would be whistling not the servers. Servers whistling would just be crazy.

Look I’m out here to provide a living for my family. I ain’t out here tryin ta hang out. Fact is I ain’t gonna. All I need is diesel fuel, a clean shower and an above average hot box or a star above sheety sit down cafe/restaurant to get a bite. I’m either truckin, sleeping, or doing something that has to be done to go truckin. If there isn’t any of that to do I’m pointed toward my piece of America. I don’t care nothin about hearing back when you pulled cattle, about your 1000 acre cattle ranch, the long hood Pete you had that was the baddest of the bad or the time you showed that ####in DOT who was boss and called the US Marshall’s on his ###. Not to mention your time as a seal or the top secret loads you pull. That’s exactly what you get into hangin out waiting on a load at some truck stop.

To each their own, I certainly don’t mind a decent conversation with a stranger. Whether it’s the ins and outs of what I do, markets or truck issues. I really enjoy a conversation with an old timer about the early days and how they made it. I certainly do not mind helping anyone with tools or labor to get em goin. Actually I enjoy that. But I have low tolerance for the mentally impaired.

And there is certainly no lack of that!

I know what yer saying tho, I'm the same, get in get done get out, I'd just soon stop at a stand-alone diner down the road for grub, but in a lite-class rollback, that is far easier for me than you folks.

Honestly i dont like truckstops to begin with but if you put a gun to my head. An on call 24/7 towtruck to yoink lollygaggers out of fuel islands. A gated lot that you gotta pay a $250 deposit to get into and if trash or piss is found around your rig you forfit said fee and next time its $500 then $5000

Large wide pull through parking with covered roofs to avoid getting soaked or slushed in bad weather. Decent bar and grill with sam adams on tap. Good showers, a small store where i can buy actual bloody food like fruit and veggus as well as esentials at a reasonable price. And $10 pay toilets that are cleaned between users which you get 1 shower and 1 toilet credit every time you fill up.

I used to hate fees like that but asking nicely never bloody works.
