When its all said and done what I can't figure out is why didn't the company just hire another rig hook it up to the trailer and then send someone else out to pick up the other truck when it was finished getting repaired? Add up all the $100 per day their paying you while you sit around doing nothing, would easily pay for another hire truck.

I've been to a few places that rated as "nowhere" OK., yet they escape the memory bits.
Nothing exciting about OKC or Tulsa.
Big Cabin was FUN a few times but they were in the young to mid 2000 decade.
So nothing happens Sunday and day 13 is Monotony day.

In my company I pay $200/day if breakdown is over the road. If it’s going to be more than a couple days I pay for a rental car for driver to go home.
Over a decade ago I broke down with Schneider a couple times. Once was 3 days in a hotel and 2 other times towed to their yard.
In my opinion driver needs to make money during breakdowns. It’s not their fault it broke and they are missing income because of my equipment. A friend of mine had a truck go down for 5 weeks. He had 5 drivers rotate so each one of the 5 drivers got 1 week paid time off instead of just the one guy taking a month off.Gearjammin' Penguin, austinmike, Another Canadian driver and 6 others Thank this. -
Good Gawd this sucks. I got stuck near Chicago middle of winter with a truck breakdown, by day 5 I told them I was going home. Miraculously they gave me a loaner at the terminal in lovely Gary Indiana that day. I really don't see how these cheap companies still only pay 100 a day breakdown..they were paying that back in the 90's. I ain't sitting in a hotel room for very long..it's either keep me moving or I am headed to the house. I would let them know Monday it's time to get going.they are taking advantage of you..it's your life and time, not theirs. If they can't, time to look elsewhere.

I would just do what I want at my own expense; I’d expect breakdown pay and for them to cover the hotel, but I can find better things to do. If the shop closes for the weekend, I’d come back to town on the off chance it’s ready so I don’t get blamed for it sitting extra days. Turning down the offer of another truck unfortunately means the pay will stop, but that still gives me 7-8 days of freedom.

Man.....tough break man. Being broke down sucks majorly. I've been in similar situations. Unfortunately there really isn't a text book way for a company to handle a breakdown. I've been with small companies with cheap owners and bigger companies that can just slide you into another truck. A couple of years ago, I hit a deer and that destroyed the coolant system. It occurred somewhere near Cadiz, KY. They towed a truck from Union, MO for me to switch into. It was cold so I had to sleep in the cold because I couldn't get a hold to anyone til business hours. Then I had to wait til the afternoon to get into the other truck. Swapped everything out of there on the shoulder. Other times I've had to just wait it out in the motel. 100 bucks a day while broke down is pretty generous. There are companies out there that don't give out a dime for breakdown, or give so little you cant do anything with it. It ain't what you'd make on the road, but it's better than nothing, and they're putting you in a motel on their dime. In trucking, drivers have learn to like the taste of ####-nit, because there are times where you'll have to eat it. These are one of those times. I can't tell you what to do here, but only what I would do. I'd enjoy the time off and get well rested. Time off is elusive sometimes. Some guys say negotiate something with the company and I'm not so sure that's sound advice. Companies have their way of how they handle things according to their business model. I know one thing, breakdowns like this are career defining because it helps you build your bull #### tolerance. It ain't always going to be roses out here, but by the same token, the days ain't always going to be dark either. You say you like where you are, so there are a lot more sunny days. Just consider this a bad rainstorm lol...it passes.
