the advantage you have with a 2+1 out west is you can scale more weight than a closed 3 - in non-20k per axle states.
take California Arizona Nevada for example - you will be able to 46700 (approx depending on axle spacing) on the tandem and 23350 on the booster for approx 69k versus a closed 3 where you will 59k or 60k depending on spacing.
you can get approx the same all the way to Florida (there is one state where you can only get 44/22)
states like Nebraska and Oklahoma- not so much.
the west coast Eve we beam will split the weight across the trailer and booster 2/3 1/3 ( so it is even on all 3 axles) based on where the pivot was built on the trailer. The shims will allow to change the pitch of the booster so that you have even travel at the front of the beam . IE so the beam can travel both up and down while going down the road. If you are bottomed out or tipped out the weight won’t split right but more importantly, the suspension will not function as intended.
When the booster is off, you will discover that you must load farther back than you think. This is because the trailer axles ride on the pivot - not on the frame like a traditional trailer. So the center of weight for the trailer will not be half the distance from king pin to center of axle group in the trailer but instead the king pin to center of the pivot - so likely 1 or 2’ further back in the well.
hope this helps

CAXPT, D.Tibbitt, PoleCrusher and 4 others Thank this.

WTF times are we living in when you flag down the mailman in a small town to ask about an address, and the first thing they do is bust out Google Maps?

So I truly appreciate the advice. -
Hey @truckdad
would you post a picture of a California 7 axle with an excavator loaded on it to show how it works in reverse … you will see how he has to load the machine so far forward to keep weight off the trailer axles. -
