Then I guess that makes me a sucker, since I'm 9 months in and don't plan on leaving. I also started my career at Schneider so maybe that has something to do with it. What other opinions people have about Magnum, I couldn't care less about. I make 52 cents a mile and maybe average 8-9k miles a month. I clear about 4k a month after taxes. I'm happy with the money I'm making. For some other people 4k a month is a joke. But it's not THEIR money, it's MY money. Coming from a very poor family where my mother struggled to even keep food on the table, I'm blessed to make the money I make now. I really don't care about your opinions, or really anyone elses if I'm completely honest. These are my decisions and judgements to make, not yours or anyone elses.

Been driving LTL for Magnum for 3 years. If things stay the way they have been I'll be here for the next 27 years. Love the LTL Coon Rapids terminal, the work life balance, and the dispatchers.

I love the miles on these Jersey runs but sometimes i can't stand New Jersey. Dropping off in South Plainfield, which isn't the issue. They have me picking up near Camden (ew) and the shipper on Google has overwhelmingly negative reviews (double ew). Hopefully i won't get mugged or shot.

Do they send you out to Jersey a lot? Good luck out there. I hope you get out safely!

Out of curiosity, how many hours per week do they work you guys? And do were they working you more during the year of 2021 when freight was booming (were they forcing you guys to do a full 70 hours in 5 days, I know a lot of places couldn't keep up with freight demand last year)?

Also, do you guys (the LTL Coon Rapids drivers) ever hear from Jenn, the OTR dispatcher out of Minneapolis/Most of Minnesota? I ask about Jenn because there's times when I come through the Coon Rapids Terminal and I'm able to just drop a loaded trailer and move onto the next load because Jenn says she can get her "local guy" to finish out the load. I always wondered if Jenn has a specific local driver who works only for Jenn, finishing the shorthall loads around the Minn/St Paul area that the OTR guys didn't get to, or if she's maybe just communicating with the LTL dispatchers who dispatch out the final mile OTR loads to whichever LTL local drivers are avaliable. Not sure if you would know anything about that.

Only if you want to. I generally try to avoid going there as much as possible but i was kinda hurting for miles this month. Delivery was fine but pick up took 7 hours. Ended up driving quite a ways into PA before i called it a day shortly after midnight. I make my delivery next morning in Kenosha, WI, then picking up a load heading to NC. Might ask for a TX run next time if they don't have anything going out west. Haven't been down there in a hot minute.

Another piece of my flow below stuff broke. The lower rubber piece that goes around the plastic somehow came loose on the Ohio turnpike and it was just flapping around. Oh well. At least it isn't dragging along the ground

Apart from OTR or LTL, there's also seems to be some dedicated routes that are either home daily with weekends off or home daily and home 2-3 days per week, driving 53' trailers drop and hooks. In my orientation class almost a year ago I was the only OTR driver, the rest were new drivers to the company who signed on for dedicated accounts. Several were out of Iowa and another one was out of the Midwest somewhere, can't remember where but I know it wasn't based out of Chicago. I've met several drivers who were doing dedicated accounts.

So, while I've written about how much I've enjoyed the OTR division here at Magnum, there's definitely opportunities outside of OTR as well if that's what some people are looking for.

When did you attend orientation? I attended on November 29th of last year. There were 5 OTR drivers in my class including me. 3 of them experienced. 1 failed the road test and another had a family emergency while out with their trainer and had to get flown back to Fargo.
