A DOT number and CDL would be required.
This would be a for hire carrier, the trailer would most likely be over 10k and the GCVW would be over 26001 lbs.

    kwswan and pumpkinishere Thank this.

Ya he is wanting to run under our authority and he’s aware of the 26001 for the non cdl. I think he was looking into having a trailer custom built I thought he said the trailer would weigh 8.5 but I’m not sure. I thought he said truck and trailer together would weigh 12.6 leaving him with the ability to haul 12,000

We were explaining he would do much better with cdl, he could haul a little heavier loads and the pay would be greater but he said maybe in the near future he would. Idk. Hotshot is new to us. We’ve learned a lot about it in a little time but we have a lot more we need to learn.

    Dual Rear Wheels.

On most light duty trucks, when you go to DRW, usually you get a higher rated suspension and axle also.

40' doesn't mean you gotta have a cdl but I imagine it be much harder to make it without because you're limiting yourself on weight.

With that said you'd probably do better with 2500 and 40' flat with 7k axles running non cdl than a CDL running with the higher weight capacity but running something less than 40'.

Best set up is CDL, DRW truck and 40' flatbed with at least 12k trailer axles.

The truck is gonna weight much more than 4k, probably closer to 7 or 8k. My F450 with a regular truck bed no aux fuel tank is just under 10k.
