Hourly is the fairest way to go for an employee IMO. Are you straight time or getting OT after 40?

That's what they tell us to make us feel good but I think the real truth of the matter is they try their best to keep it off the loadboards because once it posts they get hammered on the rate.

I remember having a bunch of debates on here about how fleet owners were paying percentage and had no turnover, etc. It wasn’t popular opinion at the time, but I said that as soon as rates went down all of those drivers would move on and the result would be that they over paid during good times and are left holding the bag in bad times.

You didn’t do anything wrong, but your story is proof of the concept.

True. And having 2 trucks instead of 1 is another plus. Since we stay local running the same area that's what happens with us. The few brokers we work with on the regular send us loads before they hit the boards. If we can't cover it no big deal, they still ask us 1st because they know it'll get there w/o an issue

actually I do kind of have a personal broker, Company last year I was leasing at closed there truck side down but left logistics/ brokerage open. And we all the drivers actually left in sad but good spirits and most kept in touch with ones that stayed. I'm onboarded with them yet I don't know the rates yet. I'm hoping I'll get a little better of a bump through them
