In my opinion you are wrong. The reality is yes, you are free to wear whatever you want. Just know that you will be judged on that. Right or wrong your value will more that likely be accessed by that.

I’m not saying that things should be that way. Just that they are that way. If you choose to wear a pink tutu with a purple Mohawk because it makes you happy that’s fine. Just know that you will be closing certain doors.

    that is reality.

You could wear a nice expensive 3 piece suit, but once you are seen stepping out of a semi truck……..not all but many peoples opinion would be the same. People just don’t like us. Modern society in general looks down on the blue collar working class.

Well. I will say tarping in a 3 piece suit would be just as ridiculous as tarping in a tutu. But I do know a couple guys that wear a tie. One is probably retired by now, but he was a top notch operator.

It would be nice if truck drivers cared about personal hygiene but a lot of them don't. That doesn't mean that just because I'm ok wearing shorts and a t-shirt instead of boots and jeans and a button up shirt that I have bad hygiene. I guess I need to start thinking that mechanics have bad hygiene cause they don't wear coveralls anymore like they did in the old days.

I do understand where you're coming from but my initial post was just because I'm tired of the people that think if you're not wearing boots and jeans like the old timers did them you're not a truck driver. It's BS. I also don't wear a suit when it's time to "dress up" regardless what the occasion is.

There's guys here at Landstar that always wear button up shirt and ties when they are at a customer location. They feel it's a better look and they claim that's why they get the work they have. Maybe so, maybe not.

Mechanics still wear a uniform. For the most part. Again. My issue is not necessarily shorts. It’s more about being a slob. I thought I already made that distinction. Shorts aren’t my forte, but in the right circumstances I can somewhat see them as acceptable.

But anyhow we’ve exhausted this topic. My opinion hasn’t changed and neither has anyone else’s.

How many brokers or shippers have really asked what clothes you're going to wear or how long your hair is, aside from PPE or clean shaven face to wear a respirator? I've never had a complaint about my long hair or beard. I get a fair amount of compliments, though. Maybe they talk bad about me when I drive off, but they always seem happy to see me when I come back. Maybe they think I'm a professional because I don't have any tattoos.

Next time I get on a plane and the pilot comes in in sweats, flip flops and t shirt loaded with food stains I’ll have a hard time remembering the way he is dressed doesn’t matter as I exit the plane
