Um, has anyone besides me read the article?
We've got roughly 10 months before the end of the world.
    Calm down.
    This is total click bait

I think this is a pile-on article after FedEx contractors announced they may sit out this peak season because of the fuel surcharge that wasn't being paid to them.

Of course no one read the article, they saw the headlines and it is like “gasp! The sky is falling!”

July 2023 is a long way off, O’Brian will have a new contract on the table for ratification long before the old one expires.

EDIT - by far this isn’t the biggest strike in US history, if it happens it will be something on the level of number 5. The biggest was in 1959 by the steel workers, well over 500,000 union members stuck Nation wide.

They won’t sit out. If they did and didn’t just lose their contracts all together they would certainly lose enough points to not be able to bid on dedicated lanes, effectively turning their trucks into wild teams until they built enough points up again to bid on dedicated runs.

People see Teamsters and think it’s just the trucks, they might not realize it’s everyone. Personally I’ve only known one delivery driver, he lived a couple houses down from me when I lived in Missoula. During peak season he pulled a cargo trailer behind his delivery van. He admitted that the long days tended to suck, but his pay was increased for pulling the trailer and he also got a ton of hours for a few weeks. Then one year that stopped and they were hiring “extra” people and they were delivering packages with whatever vehicle they showed up in. I know I’d be frustrated had I been in his shoes.

Speaking of strikes, what about the possible upcoming railroad strike? That’s only a few days away.

Not always. But it’s all about the $$$ no matter what.

Local steel plant was on strike for 6 months. Never stopped completely but did slow down. Scab workers were brought in to try and operate equipment from WWll, ended up breaking more stuff than they produced.

I was called and ask if I would continue hauling although it meant crossing the picket line. I declined.

$$$ makes many do things no matter who they step on to get it.

Out of town trucks were brought in driven by many who could hardly speak English, and transported the steel out to 2 disclosed locations for the normal trucks to take it on to it’s delivery point. That way the normal trucks could say they didn’t cross the line.

Just another way to piss on the pants leg of the union guy without getting their hands dirty….? It’s all about the $$$.

Glad I had my lowboy to go after a different kind of freight…..

There's a few factors besides money involved with this strike. They've been without a contract for years. They're treated like dirt and the quality of life is horrible beyond belief. I did it for 16 years before I realized the railroad wasnt worth it. I can tell you for sure though that this strike won't last long at all if it does happen. Unfortunately the unions have zero balls to say no to the president when he does order the strike to end.

We have a planned MN state wide nurse's strike on the 12th pending a deal.
We will deliver OX to the local community hospitals that cannot strike legally.
We will not cross a picket line otherwise.
The company has contractors lined up to supply hospitals across the state but also happens to be the same day as a 5 day plant turnaround.
They've already told us we may be going to KC, Des Moines, Chicago or IN to pick up liquid if necessary.
Can't wait for this sh** show.
