Lo Nox overhaul. Search here or Google about it.

I'd heard this was a a downside to some-if not all-of the low compression setups Detroit used. They would have 15:1 compression ratio, and not 16.5:1. Certain models had this problem, and I don't remember which. There's 6067BK60, 6067PK60, 6067MK60, and more. I had a S60 that did the same, and smoked up my shop bad that doesn't have exhaust fan. I am guessing if this is the issue, you don't have much to worry about.

Today my neighbor came up to the yard and started his 98. It’s a PK 15:1 compression. It smoked a bit even though it’s 80 degrees outside. Winter time it smokes and chokes like an old mechanical till it’s warmed up. Totally normal. It has less than 150k on an inframe. Runs great and good fuel economy. Like everyone said it’s the lo Nox program, probably added when it was inframed last. It’s a well know problem. The Original settlement with the epa required upgrading to Lo nox at overhaul time. Detroit later settled with the epa and upgraded x amount of Busses as part of another settlement, once the white smoke problem became known. Everyone else just had to live with the smoke. Next time you rebuild it, you can get the BK model kit, as long as yours is a PK, and has cooling nozzles. If it’s a gk, mk, or ?k and the blocks manufactured after may 98, it’s already drilled for nozzles and capped, so you can add the nozzles. Before May 98, only the PK has the blocks drilled and cooling nozzles. You’ll need new rods with floating wrist pins, for the 16:5-1 pistons. I think you can get 2000 or newer drilled rods if you decide to buy rods. The wrist pins are different also, on the drilled rods. I think the inside diameter is smaller. Anyway, meanwhile let it smoke. Lo nox program sets the timing back, makes it run rich till warmed up.

Do you know the Serial Number or Model Number for your Engine so we can determine what you have ?
